Apple Returns to Debt Markets

Apple is reportedly seeking approximately $7 billion through a US dollar bond offering, according to Bloomberg News, citing people familiar with the matter. The potential issuance would make the iPhone manufacturer the latest major technology company to access debt markets as the sector raises substantial funding for artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure expansion.

The final size of the offering has not been determined and could change depending on investor demand, Bloomberg reported. Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment, and Reuters said it could not independently verify the report.

The reported offering comes as major technology companies increasingly use debt financing to support investment requirements and broader corporate objectives.

Seven-Tranche Structure Includes Fixed and Floating Rates

According to a regulatory filing, Apple’s proposed seven-part offering consists of two floating-rate notes and five fixed-rate notes.

The floating-rate securities are scheduled to mature in 2028 and 2029, while the fixed-rate notes have maturities ranging from 2028 through 2036.

Bloomberg reported that initial price guidance for the longest-dated tranche was set at 80 basis points above US Treasuries. This pricing indication provides an early reference for the borrowing cost investors may demand, although final terms remain subject to the offering process.

Goldman Sachs, Bank of America Securities, Deutsche Bank Securities and JPMorgan are serving as joint book-running managers.

Goldman Sachs, Bank of America and Deutsche Bank declined to comment on the size of the proposed offering. JPMorgan did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Proceeds Intended for Buybacks and Debt Repayment

The regulatory filing states that Apple intends to use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, including share buybacks and repayment of outstanding debt.

The proposed allocation gives the company flexibility to direct the funds toward capital-return initiatives and balance-sheet management rather than identifying a single dedicated investment project.

Although the broader technology sector has been raising substantial amounts to finance AI expansion, the filing specifically identifies general business purposes as the intended use of Apple’s bond proceeds.

Apple Last Issued Bonds in May 2025

Apple’s previous bond offering took place in May 2025, when the company raised $4.5 billion through a four-part transaction.

That issuance attracted approximately $10 billion in investor orders, demonstrating demand for the company’s debt at the time.

The newly reported $7 billion target would represent a larger potential financing operation, although the final amount will depend on market conditions and investor demand.

What Investors Should Watch Next

Investors will be monitoring the final size, pricing and demand for Apple’s proposed issuance. The initial guidance of 80 basis points over US Treasuries for the longest-dated tranche provides an early indication of borrowing terms, but final pricing will be important in assessing investor appetite.

The offering also provides another indication of how major technology companies are using capital markets amid substantial financing requirements across the sector. For Apple, the stated objectives of share repurchases and debt repayment make the allocation of proceeds, alongside the final cost of borrowing, key details to follow.
