Key Points
- Meta’s Muse AI agent has quickly gained consumer attention, reaching millions of downloads within its first two weeks and helping drive a sharp rebound in Meta shares.
- Wall Street analysts are focusing on Muse’s consumer-oriented model, which is designed to generate revenue through a small share of transactions rather than traditional advertising.
- Meta’s shift toward proprietary AI models and the creation of its Super Intelligence Labs are increasingly being viewed as important elements of its strategy to compete in consumer AI.
Meta Platforms has delivered a notable shift in investor attention with the rapid emergence of its Muse AI agent. After months in which companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google attracted much of the consumer AI spotlight, Meta’s latest product is giving investors a new way to assess the company’s position in the rapidly developing AI market.
Muse has accumulated millions of downloads within its first two weeks, while Meta shares gained approximately 13% over the past week and were positioned for their strongest monthly performance since July 2013. The move represents a significant change in sentiment following several periods of weakness for the stock earlier in the year.
Meta’s AI Reset Comes Into Focus
The renewed attention around Muse follows changes Meta made to its AI strategy last year. The company established Super Intelligence Labs and moved toward developing proprietary AI models, including its closed Muse Spark model introduced this year.
Investors are now assessing whether those investments are beginning to produce tangible consumer products. KeyBanc managing director Justin Patterson said the team behind the effort has made significant progress over the past year, reinforcing the idea that Meta’s AI strategy is entering a different phase.
Consumer AI Creates a New Monetization Model
One of the most important aspects of Muse is its consumer focus. While Meta’s established social platforms are primarily monetized through advertising, Muse currently operates without ads. Instead, the company plans to generate revenue by taking a small share of transactions completed through the AI agent.
That approach gives investors a different framework for evaluating consumer AI. Rather than relying exclusively on advertising impressions or subscription fees, Meta is positioning Muse as an intermediary that could participate directly in transactions generated through its platform.
The model’s financial potential will depend on how extensively users adopt Muse and how many services and transaction capabilities eventually become connected to the ecosystem.
Wall Street Watches the Ecosystem, Not Just Downloads
The rapid growth in downloads is an early indicator of consumer interest, but analysts are also watching what happens after users enter the platform. Additional connectors and services could expand the range of tasks Muse can perform and create more opportunities for Meta to participate in transactions.
That creates a potential relationship between user growth, ecosystem expansion and revenue generation. More downloads alone would not establish a successful business model, but increasing usage combined with a growing network of connected services could provide a clearer path toward monetization.
Meta’s Changing Position in the AI Race
The shift is particularly notable because Meta had recently been viewed by some investors as trailing other major AI companies in consumer-facing products. The rapid adoption of Muse is changing that conversation, with analysts increasingly examining Meta as a potential leader in consumer AI rather than simply a major technology company investing heavily in the sector.
At the same time, the broader AI market continues to face questions about development costs, competitive positioning and the pace at which companies can turn AI investment into sustainable revenue. Meta’s ability to demonstrate commercial traction through Muse could therefore become an important part of its broader AI investment story.
What Investors May Watch Next
The next phase for Meta will depend on whether Muse can convert initial consumer interest into sustained engagement and meaningful transaction activity. The number of downloads provides an early signal, but the development of connectors, usage levels and transaction volumes will offer more information about the platform’s commercial potential.
Wall Street analysts have also become more positive on Meta, with the source reporting 73 Buy ratings, six Holds and no Sells, while numerous analysts have raised their price targets. The reported consensus target is $787. Those figures reflect analyst sentiment rather than a guaranteed outcome, making the company’s ability to execute on its consumer AI strategy the key issue to monitor.
