Key Points
- AMD reported Q3 2026 revenue of $13.40 billion, an increase of 45% year over year, while adjusted earnings per share rose 74% to $2.09.
- Data Center revenue climbed 97% to $8.55 billion, highlighting the growing contribution of AI infrastructure and server demand.
- AMD expects approximately $17 billion in Q4 revenue, supported by accelerating demand across its Data Center portfolio, although free cash flow declined during the reported quarter.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) reported strong third-quarter 2026 results, reflecting the continued expansion of demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure, data center processors, and accelerated computing. Revenue and adjusted earnings exceeded the estimates shown in the earnings summary, while the company’s outlook points to another substantial increase in quarterly sales as competition for AI infrastructure spending intensifies.
Data Center Growth Becomes AMD’s Main Revenue Driver
AMD generated $13.40 billion in third-quarter revenue, compared with the $13.09 billion estimate, representing year-over-year growth of 45%. Adjusted earnings per share reached $2.09, exceeding the $1.95 estimate and increasing 74% from the previous year. The results indicate that the company’s expanding product portfolio is translating into stronger financial performance as demand for computing capacity continues to rise.
The Data Center segment was the most significant contributor to this expansion. Revenue reached $8.55 billion, an increase of 97% year over year and above the $8.27 billion estimate. This performance reflects the strategic importance of AMD’s server processors and accelerator products as cloud providers and technology companies expand infrastructure to support AI workloads.
Other business lines delivered a more mixed performance. Client and Gaming revenue totaled $3.70 billion, declining 8% year over year. Within that segment, Client revenue increased 7% to $2.95 billion, while Gaming revenue fell 40% to $773 million. Embedded revenue, meanwhile, rose 29% to $1.11 billion, indicating improved performance in another part of the company’s portfolio.
Profitability Improves, but Cash Flow Requires Attention
AMD’s non-GAAP gross margin reached 56%, increasing 200 basis points year over year. Non-GAAP operating income rose 75% to $3.92 billion, while adjusted EBITDA increased 71% to $4.16 billion. These figures suggest that revenue growth was accompanied by stronger operating profitability, an important consideration as semiconductor companies invest heavily in research, product development, and manufacturing capacity.
However, the cash-flow picture was less favorable. Free cash flow totaled $554 million, declining 64% year over year from the comparative period, according to the supplied earnings summary. The divergence between operating earnings and free cash flow deserves attention because infrastructure expansion, inventory requirements, and investment commitments can affect the amount of cash available after operating and capital expenditures.
For investors assessing the sustainability of AMD’s growth, the relationship between earnings expansion, capital requirements, and cash generation will remain important. Stronger margins provide financial flexibility, but continued investment must ultimately translate into durable revenue and cash-flow growth.
Helios, HPE and the Next Phase of AI Infrastructure
AMD’s strategic announcements underline its effort to strengthen its position in the AI infrastructure market. The company highlighted its Helios platform, with Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure identified in connection with deployments or workloads running on first-rack-scale solutions powered by AMD’s Instinct accelerators and EPYC CPUs.
Another development involves Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which is expected to deploy its first AMD Helios systems through a reported $12 billion deal. AMD also highlighted the Versal AI Core XQR1902, a space-grade system-on-chip designed for missions lasting up to 15 years. Together, these initiatives demonstrate the company’s efforts to expand beyond individual processors into broader computing platforms and specialized applications.
The fourth-quarter outlook reinforces this strategy. AMD expects revenue of approximately $17 billion, with a 3% range around that figure, alongside a non-GAAP gross margin of approximately 55%. Management attributed the expected acceleration in revenue and earnings growth to stronger demand across its Data Center portfolio and the scaling of Helios and Venice production.
Looking ahead, the central question for AMD will be whether its expanding AI infrastructure business can sustain its growth while improving cash generation. Investors will be watching Data Center revenue, accelerator adoption, gross margins, and the execution of major customer deployments. Competition, infrastructure spending cycles, and the conversion of announced commitments into recognized revenue will also shape the company’s financial trajectory.
