Key Points
- CrowdStrike and Okta posted stronger-than-expected fiscal second-quarter results and raised their forecasts, sending their shares sharply higher.
- The rapid adoption of AI agents is creating new cybersecurity risks, encouraging businesses to increase spending on identity, endpoint and cloud security.
- Despite strong momentum, analysts caution that the commercial impact of AI remains relatively early, leaving investors to weigh accelerating demand against elevated expectations.
AI Adoption Creates a New Cybersecurity Spending Cycle
Shares of CrowdStrike and Okta surged after their latest earnings reports demonstrated how the expansion of artificial intelligence is translating into stronger demand for cybersecurity products. CrowdStrike shares gained about 15%, while Okta climbed roughly 21%, with the broader cybersecurity sector also advancing. Palo Alto Networks, SailPoint, Zscaler and Rubrik each recorded gains of approximately 9%.
The market reaction reflects a growing realization that AI is not only a productivity technology but also a source of additional security exposure. More sophisticated AI systems and increasingly autonomous agents can expand the number of potential attack surfaces, forcing enterprises to reconsider how they protect identities, applications, data and endpoints. For cybersecurity vendors, this creates a potentially powerful cycle in which greater AI adoption simultaneously increases the threat environment and the need for defensive technology.
CrowdStrike Sees Demand Expanding Across Security Platforms
CrowdStrike reported results above Wall Street expectations and raised its outlook, pointing to the increasing importance of cybersecurity as AI-driven attacks become more sophisticated. Chief Executive George Kurtz characterized the environment as an “arms race,” arguing that AI is contributing to both higher attack activity and increased cybersecurity spending.
The company’s flexible Falcon platform was another important indicator of customer behavior, with the offering doubling year over year. Such expansion suggests customers may increasingly prefer security platforms capable of covering multiple threats rather than maintaining fragmented technology stacks. That trend could strengthen CrowdStrike’s ability to capture a larger share of enterprise security budgets as companies reassess their defenses around AI-enabled workflows.
Okta Highlights the Emerging Identity Security Opportunity
Okta’s results point to a related opportunity in identity management. As companies deploy increasing numbers of AI agents, controlling which systems those agents can access becomes a central security challenge. Okta said new products represented nearly one-third of total bookings, while management highlighted dozens of AI-related deals during the quarter.
Chief Executive Todd McKinnon nevertheless emphasized that AI adoption remains in its early stages. That qualification is important because the market has already priced significant growth into leading cybersecurity stocks. CrowdStrike and Okta were both already up more than 80% before the latest earnings-driven moves, increasing the sensitivity of their valuations to any evidence that enterprise AI spending is developing more slowly than anticipated.
Analysts remain constructive but selective. Deutsche Bank continues to see attractive long-term opportunities for cybersecurity companies in the AI era, while Bank of America upgraded Okta following evidence of accelerating AI-related growth. At the same time, the firm warned that disclosed metrics remain limited and that AI was still expected to have an immaterial impact on Okta’s fiscal 2027 results.
Going forward, investors will be watching whether AI-related cybersecurity demand develops from early customer experimentation into a broad, recurring source of revenue. Upcoming results from companies including Palo Alto Networks and Zscaler should provide additional evidence about enterprise spending trends. The key risk is that elevated expectations may move faster than actual AI revenue contribution, while the opportunity is that increasingly autonomous AI agents could make identity and security infrastructure a significantly larger part of corporate technology budgets.
