The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange is displaying a divided market picture, as gains among mid-cap stocks and selected broader-market segments contrast with declines in several leading indices. The divergence suggests that buying interest remains active but is not translating into a uniform advance across the market. For investors, the distribution of gains and losses, alongside trading turnover, offers a clearer picture of market direction than headline index movements alone.

TA-35 Weakens as the TA-90 Outperforms

The TA-35 stands at 4,152.4, down 0.33%, with 16 securities advancing and 19 declining. Its negative performance indicates some pressure among large-cap constituents, although the relatively narrow difference between advancing and declining securities points to a mixed rather than uniformly negative session within the index.

By contrast, the TA-90 rises 0.71% to 3,802.78, supported by 63 advancing securities against 24 declining ones. The stronger advance and broader participation suggest that mid-cap stocks are providing a source of relative strength. This divergence between the TA-35 and TA-90 is an important feature of the session, indicating that performance varies considerably by market segment.

The TA-20 also moves lower, falling 0.44% to 3,951.26, with five securities advancing and 14 declining. The weakness in this index reinforces the contrast between selected large-cap segments and the stronger performance seen in the TA-90. Investors assessing the Israeli equity market should therefore distinguish between index-level declines and the more positive momentum visible in other segments.

Broader Market Gains Despite a Slight TA-125 Decline

The TA-125 trades at 4,064.31, down 0.09%, even as 79 securities rise compared with 43 that fall. The small decline in the index alongside a positive balance of advancing securities highlights the uneven contribution of individual constituents to overall performance. While more securities are gaining than losing, those movements have not been sufficient to push the benchmark into positive territory.

Other broad-market indices are posting gains. The TA-200 rises 0.43% to 3,967.01, with 121 advancing securities and 68 declining. The TA Sector-Balance index gains 0.29% to 4,691.56, as 63 securities advance and 34 decline. Meanwhile, the TA-SME60 climbs 0.32% to 1,278.55, supported by 37 advancing securities against 21 declining ones.

Together, these figures indicate that positive performance extends beyond a single index, particularly among small- and mid-cap segments. However, the declines in the TA-35, TA-125 and TA-20 show that the broader market’s strength remains selective. The difference between the number of advancing securities and the percentage change in each index also underlines the importance of constituent weightings when interpreting market breadth.

Trading Turnover Highlights Concentrated Market Activity

Trading activity is substantial across several major benchmarks. Turnover associated with the TA-200 stands at approximately NIS 2.51 billion, while the TA-125 records approximately NIS 2.51 billion as well. The TA-35 posts turnover of around NIS 2.20 billion, and the TA Sector-Balance index records approximately NIS 2.44 billion.

The TA-20 records turnover of roughly NIS 1.68 billion, while the TA 90 and Banks index reaches approximately NIS 1.14 billion. By comparison, turnover in the TA-90 stands at around NIS 305.7 million, and the TA-SME60 records approximately NIS 15.8 million.

These figures show that trading activity is concentrated in the broader and large-cap benchmarks, while turnover is considerably lower in the small-cap index. Turnover alone does not establish whether investors are buying or selling, but combined with index performance and the number of advancing and declining securities, it helps investors evaluate where market activity is most pronounced.

What Investors Should Monitor Next

The next stage of trading will help determine whether the TA-90’s outperformance and gains across the TA-200 and TA-SME60 can broaden, or whether weakness in the TA-35 and TA-20 will weigh more heavily on the market. Investors should monitor whether the TA-125 moves into positive territory, whether advancing securities continue to outnumber decliners, and whether turnover supports the prevailing price movements. A sustained improvement across both large- and mid-cap stocks would signal broader participation, while persistent divergence could indicate a more selective market. Until a clearer direction emerges, index performance, market breadth and turnover remain key indicators for assessing the balance between opportunity and risk in Israeli equities.
