SpaceX is attracting growing attention from Wall Street as it expands beyond launch services and satellite communications into artificial intelligence computing and other technology markets.

Musk has projected that the company could reach annual recurring revenue of between $500 billion and $1 trillion by the end of 2027. Its expanding AI computing business has also prompted speculation that SpaceX could become another major hyperscaler alongside Meta, Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon.

Futurum Group CEO Daniel Newman argued that SpaceX’s combination of AI computing, satellite services and space operations could create a business with an unusually broad commercial reach. He suggested that a potential merger with Tesla would further expand that opportunity.

SpaceX’s stated ambitions also extend to mobile communications, data centers in space, lunar infrastructure and the longer-term objective of establishing human settlements beyond Earth. These initiatives broaden the company’s potential markets while requiring substantial investment and execution.

A Potential SpaceX-Tesla Combination

A merger could bring SpaceX’s space and computing infrastructure together with Tesla’s electric vehicles, robotics and manufacturing ambitions. Wall Street analysts are assessing whether combining the businesses could create operational advantages across several technology sectors.

Tesla’s plans include expanding production of its Optimus humanoid robots, developing the Cybercab autonomous vehicle business and pursuing Terafab, Musk’s proposed chip manufacturing initiative.

RBC Capital Markets analyst Tom Narayan said the chip initiative could help the companies reduce reliance on Nvidia and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). If successful, greater control over chip design and production could support AI computing, robotics and data-center development.

Tesla has stated a target of producing 20,000 Optimus robots per week by the end of 2027. Achieving that scale would require substantial manufacturing capacity and reliable access to computing hardware. A closer relationship with SpaceX could potentially support those objectives, although the structure and feasibility of any combination remain uncertain.

Analysts Raise Valuations Amid Merger Speculation

Recent analyst actions reflect growing interest in the companies’ longer-term potential. Canaccord Genuity Capital Markets analyst George Gianarikas raised his Tesla price target to $442 from $410 following its quarterly results, with the investment thesis fundamentally based on a potential merger.

JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth more than doubled his SpaceX price target to $500 after the company reported better-than-expected quarterly results. The shares were trading at $146 on Friday, according to the report.

Anmuth highlighted SpaceX’s ambitions across space infrastructure, AI computing and planetary exploration, arguing that its potential addressable markets could be exceptionally large.

Yorkville Advisors analyst Dan Ives estimated an 80% to 90% probability of a Tesla-SpaceX merger by the end of 2027, citing strategic considerations related to AI and data. This remains an analyst forecast rather than a confirmed transaction plan.

Financial and Execution Challenges Remain

The proposed combination could create opportunities to share technology, infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities. However, the scale of the businesses’ ambitions also introduces significant execution, capital allocation and integration challenges.

Revenue projections for SpaceX, Tesla’s robotics targets and the expected benefits of Terafab depend on developments that have yet to be fully realized. A merger would also require decisions on transaction structure, valuation and governance, details that have not been established in the report.

Investors therefore face a distinction between the potential value of a combined technology platform and the uncertainty surrounding its implementation.

What Investors Should Watch Next

The key developments will be whether SpaceX and Tesla provide concrete indications of merger discussions, how their AI and manufacturing investments progress, and whether operating results support the ambitious growth expectations cited by analysts.

For Tesla, execution in robotics, autonomous vehicles and chip manufacturing will be central to the investment case. For SpaceX, the ability to scale AI computing and satellite operations while funding its broader space ambitions will remain important.

Until a transaction is confirmed, merger-related valuations should be viewed as scenario-based expectations rather than established business outcomes.
