NetApp’s first-quarter fiscal 2027 results point to strengthening demand for enterprise data infrastructure as organizations expand artificial intelligence and hybrid multi-cloud deployments. The company delivered record quarterly revenue while substantially raising its full-year outlook, although the 35% year-over-year decline in free cash flow introduces an important counterpoint to the otherwise strong operating performance.

Record Revenue and Earnings Strengthen NetApp’s Growth Profile

NetApp generated $2.03 billion in revenue in Q1 FY27, representing 30% year-over-year growth and exceeding the $1.84 billion consensus estimate. Adjusted earnings per share reached $2.58, up 66% from the prior year and above the $2.12 expected by analysts. The company also reported billings of approximately $2.06 billion, an increase of 36% year-over-year, suggesting that demand and contracted business remained strong entering the second quarter.

The underlying business was similarly robust. All-flash array revenue reached $1.3 billion, a record and an increase of 47% year-over-year, while Public Cloud revenue rose 28% to $206 million. Hybrid Cloud revenue stood at approximately $1.82 billion, also increasing 30%. Together, the results indicate that NetApp is benefiting from continued enterprise spending on high-performance storage and cloud-connected data environments.

AI Infrastructure Becomes a Larger Strategic Growth Driver

The results also reinforce the increasing importance of AI workloads to NetApp’s strategy. As enterprises deploy AI applications, they require infrastructure capable of managing large datasets across on-premise systems, public clouds and increasingly distributed computing environments. NetApp’s management said customers are choosing its platform to support AI and hybrid multi-cloud initiatives, positioning data infrastructure as an increasingly important layer of the broader AI technology stack.

The company’s acquisition of DataPelago, an AI data infrastructure company, further strengthens this strategy. The transaction is intended to help customers simplify and accelerate AI deployment at scale, adding capabilities that could allow NetApp to participate more directly in the infrastructure requirements created by expanding AI adoption.

Higher FY27 Guidance Signals Greater Confidence

NetApp raised its fiscal 2027 outlook materially. Revenue is now expected to reach $7.975 billion to $8.225 billion, compared with the previous range of $7.325 billion to $7.575 billion. At the midpoint, the new revenue outlook represents an increase of roughly 9% from the prior forecast.

The company also raised its adjusted EPS outlook to $9.73 to $10.03, compared with the previous $8.70 to $9.00 range. Non-GAAP operating margin is expected at 30.3% to 31.3%, while gross margin is projected at 68.1% to 69.1%. For Q2, NetApp expects revenue of $2.025 billion to $2.175 billion and adjusted EPS of $2.54 to $2.64, broadly maintaining the elevated pace established in the first quarter.

Strong Operations, but Cash Flow Warrants Attention

Despite the stronger earnings outlook, investors will likely continue monitoring the company’s cash-generation profile. Free cash flow was $401 million in Q1, down 35% year-over-year from $620 million, while capital expenditures increased to $102 million from $53 million. The decline does not negate the quarter’s strong revenue and profitability performance, but it highlights the cost of supporting growth and strategic investment.

NetApp’s next phase will therefore depend on whether strong AI and hybrid-cloud demand can translate into sustained revenue growth while preserving margins and improving cash conversion. The combination of higher guidance, expanding all-flash and public-cloud businesses, and investments in AI infrastructure provides a stronger growth framework, but upcoming quarters will be important for determining how durable that momentum is across the global enterprise technology market.
