Meta Platforms is expanding its Muse AI agent into small-business operations, marking another step in CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s effort to extend artificial intelligence beyond the company’s traditional consumer platforms. Announced September 29, the initiative comes after a week in which Meta also established a new enterprise platform and positioned AI agents as a potential new layer between businesses, consumers and digital services.

Muse Moves From Personal Assistant to Business Tool

Meta said Muse for Small Business can work toward goals such as running business operations or finding new customers rather than simply answering questions. The agent can connect with Asana, Box, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, Intuit QuickBooks, Klaviyo, Notion, Shopify, Slack, Stripe and Zoom, as well as Facebook and Instagram business accounts. Meta says users retain approval control, with nothing publishing, sending or spending without authorization.

The expansion could be significant because small businesses already represent a large commercial ecosystem across Meta’s platforms. Instead of monetizing AI only through consumer subscriptions or advertising, Muse could eventually become a productivity layer that helps merchants manage marketing, accounting, customer engagement, commerce and payments across multiple applications.

A Broader Enterprise Strategy Takes Shape

The small-business launch follows Meta’s September 28 announcement of its Meta Enterprise Platform, which brings together Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code for businesses and developers. Meta also appointed former MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai as chief enterprise platform officer, giving the initiative a dedicated executive structure.

For global technology investors, the strategy suggests that Meta is seeking to capture value at several levels of the AI ecosystem rather than relying solely on its advertising business. However, the commercial opportunity remains dependent on adoption, reliability and the willingness of businesses to allow autonomous systems access to sensitive operational data.

Meta’s AI push has coincided with a substantial September share-price advance, although the stock has also experienced a sharp pullback after reaching recent highs.
