Asian Markets Face Widespread Selling Pressure

Asian markets experienced a sharp downturn on November 6, 2026, as significant losses in South Korea and Japan led a broader decline across several regional equity benchmarks. India stood apart from the prevailing weakness, with the S&P BSE SENSEX recording a 1.93% advance and reaching a new reported level above 80,000.

South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index fell 6.02% to 5,059.69, losing 324.11 points from its previous reported close of 5,383.80. The decline followed an already substantial 5.28% loss on November 5, extending the benchmark’s sharp retreat.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 5.96% to 57,434.77, declining 3,642.13 points from its previous reported level of 61,077.90. The index moved significantly below 60,000, marking another substantial setback for Japanese equities.

South Korea and Japan Lead Regional Declines

The KOSPI recorded the largest percentage decline among the listed indicators, falling below 5,100. Its consecutive losses have erased a considerable portion of the gains recorded during the earlier October recovery.

Japan’s Nikkei also experienced a steep reversal, extending its 1.79% decline from the previous session. The benchmark’s latest fall brought it to its lowest reported level in the recent sequence.

The simultaneous declines in South Korea and Japan represented the dominant feature of the session, with both markets experiencing losses approaching 6%.

India Advances as Hong Kong and China Retreat

India’s S&P BSE SENSEX advanced 1.93% to 80,843.49, gaining 1,518.60 points from its previous reported close of 79,324.89. The benchmark moved further above 80,000, extending its positive performance despite the broader regional downturn.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 1.27% to 24,481.86, losing 315.12 points from its previous reported level of 24,796.98. The decline followed its 3.67% advance on November 5.

The SSE Composite Index fell 1.10% to 3,649.18, shedding 40.73 points. The decline reversed its previous session’s modest 0.10% gain.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.49% to 9,020.80, retreating from its previous reported close of 9,065.10 but remaining above the 9,000 threshold.

Currency and Private Equity Indicators

The Australian Dollar Currency Index recorded the largest decline among the listed non-equity indicators, falling 1.05% to 69.33. The PHLX Yen moved in the opposite direction, gaining 0.49% to 63.44.

APAC Private Equity edged up 0.02% to 6,881.47, remaining relatively stable despite the sharp declines across several listed equity markets.

Outlook

The November 6 session highlighted a significant deterioration in regional equity performance, particularly in South Korea and Japan. India’s continued advance provided a notable contrast, although weakness across China, Hong Kong and Australia reinforced the uneven market environment. Investors may monitor whether the KOSPI can stabilize near 5,000, whether the Nikkei finds support following its move below 60,000, and whether the SENSEX can sustain its position above 80,000. The next trading sessions will be important in determining whether the latest declines represent a temporary correction or a more sustained regional downturn.
