Tel Aviv Market Pulls Back After Recent Gains

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange closed Thursday with a mixed performance as the leading blue-chip indices edged lower while several broader market segments continued to advance. The TA-35 declined 0.15% to 4,156.68, while the TA-125 fell 0.07% to 4,022.23. In contrast, the TA-90 rose 0.35% to 3,626.91.

The modest declines in the two main benchmarks followed consecutive gains earlier in the week. Despite the pullback, the TA-125 remained above 4,000, while the TA-35 held above 4,150. The limited magnitude of the declines suggests a relatively restrained retreat rather than a broad market selloff.

The TA-20 underperformed, falling 0.30% to 3,959.48. Its decline contrasted with gains across smaller companies and banking-related shares, highlighting a divergence in performance among different segments of the Israeli equity market.

Banking Shares and Smaller Companies Outperform

Several indices finished higher despite weakness in the main blue-chip benchmarks. The TA-90 and Banks index advanced 0.63% to 3,885.71, recording the strongest gain among the reported index groups. The TA-SME60 rose 0.37% to 1,261.29, while the broader TA-200 gained 0.23% to 3,839.24.

The Sector-Balance index edged up 0.01% to 4,571.05. These gains indicate that the session’s positive performance extended beyond a single index, although the weakness in the TA-35 and TA-20 shows that buying interest was not universal.

Market breadth was mixed but leaned positive across several benchmarks. The TA-125 recorded 73 advancing securities against 52 declining securities, while the TA-90 registered 54 gainers and 35 decliners. The TA-200 recorded 111 advancing securities and 82 declining securities. The TA-35, however, had 19 advancing securities compared with 17 declining securities, despite its negative index performance.

Trading Turnover Exceeds NIS 4.9 Billion

Stock turnover reached approximately NIS 4.91 billion, while bond turnover totaled around NIS 6.07 billion. The TA-125 recorded approximately NIS 3.70 billion in turnover, and the TA-200 generated about NIS 3.77 billion. Turnover in the TA-35 reached approximately NIS 2.79 billion.

The reported figures indicate substantial activity across equities and fixed-income securities. However, high turnover does not independently establish whether investors were accumulating positions, reducing exposure, or reallocating funds between market segments.

The combination of active trading and divergent index performance makes the next session particularly important. Continued strength in banking and smaller-company shares could help support the broader market, while further weakness among large-cap stocks could keep the main benchmarks under pressure.

Ofco Health Surges as Tower Declines

Individual stocks recorded substantial movements during the session. Ofco Health surged 25.64% to 512, making it the strongest performer among the notable TA-125 fluctuations reported for the day. Tower fell 7.61% to 62,440, marking a sharp decline despite the positive performance of several broader indices.

Tower also recorded turnover of approximately NIS 394.90 million, indicating significant trading activity in the stock. The available data does not identify the reasons behind either company’s price movement, so further disclosures would be needed to determine the catalysts.

The contrast between Ofco Health’s sharp advance and Tower’s decline highlights the importance of company-specific developments in a market where headline index movements remain relatively small.

What Investors Should Watch Next

Investors will be watching whether the TA-35 can hold above 4,150 and whether the TA-125 remains above 4,000 in the next session. The TA-90 near 3,627 and the TA-90 and Banks index around 3,886 will also be important indicators of whether strength outside the largest blue-chip shares can persist. Sustained positive breadth and active trading could help stabilize the market, but continued weakness in the TA-20 or renewed declines among major stocks could weigh on the leading benchmarks. The next session’s index performance, turnover, and advancing-to-declining stock ratios should help clarify whether Thursday’s divergence represents temporary consolidation or a broader shift in market leadership.
