Key Points

  • Tel Aviv equities show a mixed performance, with the TA-35 down 0.64% and the TA-125 declining 0.40%, while the TA-90 gains 0.50%.
  • The TA-200 and TA 90 and Banks indices remain in positive territory, rising 0.20% and 0.22%, respectively, despite weakness in several other benchmarks.
  • Trading turnover is elevated across major indices, while advancing stocks outnumber decliners in most broad-market benchmarks, highlighting an uneven distribution of market momentum.

Israeli equities are trading unevenly, as declines in several leading benchmarks contrast with gains in the TA-90 and other market segments. The divergence suggests that selling pressure is concentrated in parts of the market rather than extending uniformly across listed companies. With trading activity substantial and stock-level performance mixed, investors are assessing whether the market can maintain its resilience or whether weakness in large-cap shares will weigh more broadly on sentiment.

Large-Cap Weakness Weighs on Leading Benchmarks

The TA-35 has fallen 0.64% to 4,136.03, with 16 securities advancing and 20 declining. The decline points to relative weakness among Israel’s largest listed companies, although the difference between advancing and declining stocks remains limited. The TA-20 is also under pressure, losing 0.48% to reach 3,952.57, with seven securities rising and 13 falling. Together, the two indices indicate that the largest companies are facing a more challenging session than several broader market segments.

The TA-125 has slipped 0.40% to 4,008.98, even though 75 securities are advancing against 50 declining. This contrast between the index’s performance and the number of rising stocks suggests that losses in particular constituents may be exerting a disproportionate influence on the benchmark. The figures also illustrate why market breadth and index returns should be assessed together: the majority of stocks may rise without pushing a capitalization-weighted index higher.

The TA Sector-Balance index is marginally lower, down 0.05% to 4,568.71. Its 61 advancing securities outnumber 38 declining ones, reinforcing the picture of a market in which individual stock gains coexist with mild index-level weakness.

TA-90 Leads as Mid-Caps Show Relative Resilience

The TA-90 is among the strongest major benchmarks, gaining 0.50% to 3,632.03. A total of 59 securities are advancing, compared with 30 declining. The performance contrasts with the losses in the TA-35 and TA-125, suggesting that mid-capitalization stocks are demonstrating greater resilience during the session.

The TA-200 has added 0.20% to 3,838.11, with 113 advancing securities and 79 declining. Meanwhile, the TA 90 and Banks index has risen 0.22% to 3,869.94, supported by 60 advancing securities against 34 declining. These gains indicate that positive momentum remains present across several segments of the market, even as the largest stocks face pressure.

The TA-SME60, which tracks smaller companies, is nearly unchanged at 1,256.23, down just 0.03%. Its 32 advancing securities and 25 declining ones point to a relatively balanced session. The limited movement suggests that smaller companies are neither participating strongly in the advance nor experiencing the same degree of weakness seen in the TA-35. Differences in index composition and individual stock performance may help explain the divergence, but the available figures do not establish a specific catalyst.

Turnover Rises as Market Breadth Remains Uneven

Trading turnover is substantial across the major benchmarks. The TA-125 has recorded approximately NIS 716.1 million, while the TA-200 has registered about NIS 719.4 million. Turnover in the TA Sector-Balance index stands at approximately NIS 690.5 million, and the TA-35 has recorded around NIS 595.0 million. These figures show considerable trading activity, although turnover alone does not reveal whether investors are buying into weakness, reducing exposure or reallocating positions between market segments.

Market breadth offers a more nuanced picture than the headline index moves. The TA-200 has 113 advancing securities compared with 79 declining, while the TA-125 has 75 gainers against 50 decliners. The TA-90 also shows a clear positive balance. By contrast, the TA-35 and TA-20 have more declining than advancing securities. This divergence suggests that weakness in larger companies is not being fully replicated across the broader market.

What Investors Should Watch Next

The next key signal will be whether the TA-90 and TA-200 can preserve their gains while large-cap indices remain under pressure. Investors will also be watching whether the positive balance between advancing and declining securities broadens further or deteriorates as trading continues. Sustained turnover may provide useful context, but its significance will depend on the direction of prices and the distribution of stock-level gains and losses. For the Israeli equity market, the central question is whether the current divergence represents temporary rotation between market segments or the beginning of broader weakness. Changes in investor risk appetite, liquidity conditions and the wider economic outlook will remain important factors in determining the market’s next direction.
