  • The SSE Composite Index fell 0.88% to 3,767.23, recording the largest decline among the reported Asian equity benchmarks and moving further below 3,800.
  • South Korea's KOSPI declined 0.44% to 6,008.81, while the S&P/ASX 200 dropped 0.64% to 8,727.90 and the S&P BSE SENSEX slipped 0.30% to 72,815.61.

Asian markets ended October 14, 2026, on a broadly weaker note, with six of the seven reported equity and private-equity indicators declining. Mainland Chinese equities led the losses, while South Korea remained close to the psychologically important 6,000 level. Japan and Hong Kong recorded relatively modest declines, and currency indicators strengthened despite the broader weakness in regional stocks.

China Leads Regional Declines

The SSE Composite Index fell 0.88% to 3,767.23, moving further below the 3,800 threshold after closing at 3,800.86 on October 13. The decline reversed the previous session’s modest gain and placed the benchmark at a lower level than in recent trading sessions.

The latest move highlights renewed pressure in mainland Chinese equities. Investors will be watching whether the index can stabilize around the 3,750–3,800 range or whether additional selling pushes it lower.

South Korea Approaches the 6,000 Threshold

The KOSPI Composite Index declined 0.44% to 6,008.81, extending its retreat after plunging 5.46% on October 13. The benchmark is now only slightly above the psychologically significant 6,000 level.

The latest decline was smaller than the previous session’s selloff, but the index remains under substantial pressure following consecutive losses. Whether the KOSPI can hold above 6,000 will be a key near-term indicator of market stability.

Australia and India Move Lower

The S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.64% to 8,727.90, retreating from its previous close near 8,784. The decline moved the Australian benchmark further away from the 8,800 level despite the Australian Dollar Currency Index rising 0.32% to 69.82.

India’s S&P BSE SENSEX declined 0.30% to 72,815.61, giving back part of its previous session’s 1.54% advance. The index nevertheless remained above 72,000, preserving a portion of its recent recovery.

The divergence between Australian equities and the Australian dollar suggests that currency strength did not translate into stronger share prices during the session.

Japan and Hong Kong See Modest Losses

The Nikkei 225 slipped 0.05% to 67,744.29, remaining relatively stable compared with the sharper declines recorded elsewhere in the region. The PHLX Yen advanced 0.21% to 63.16, reversing its previous session’s decline.

The Hang Seng fell 0.13% to 24,314.17, holding above 24,000 despite the broader weakness across Asian markets. The relatively small decline suggested greater resilience than seen in mainland China and South Korea.

The APAC Private Equity indicator also moved lower, declining 0.36% to 6,997.45, adding to the generally cautious tone across the reported regional indicators.

Outlook

The October 14 session leaves Asian markets facing continued pressure, particularly in mainland China and South Korea. The SSE Composite has fallen below 3,800, while the KOSPI is approaching 6,000, making these levels important reference points for the next trading sessions. Australia’s ASX 200 remains below 8,800, and the Sensex is consolidating above 72,000 after its recent rebound. By contrast, the Nikkei and Hang Seng recorded only marginal losses, while the Australian Dollar and yen indicators advanced. Investors will be watching for signs of stabilization in Chinese and South Korean equities and whether the relative resilience of Japan and Hong Kong can persist.
