Key Points

  • Paul Tudor Jones sees potential for U.S. crude prices to rise another $20–$25 per barrel if the Iran conflict continues without a near-term resolution.
  • With West Texas Intermediate (WTI) trading around $92.50 per barrel, the projected increase could push prices above the previous 2026 closing high of just under $113.
  • Higher energy costs could intensify inflationary pressure, complicate central bank policy and weigh on equities, while the outlook remains highly dependent on geopolitical developments.

Oil markets are entering another uncertain period as the conflict involving Iran continues to influence expectations for global energy supplies and shipping security. Prominent hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones believes U.S. crude could climb another $20–$25 per barrel, a scenario that would have significant implications for inflation, financial markets and energy-importing economies, including Israel.

Geopolitical Risk Supports the Bullish Oil Outlook

Jones has expressed a bullish view on oil, arguing that the unresolved conflict could sustain upward pressure on prices. On October 13, WTI futures were trading around $92.50 per barrel, meaning his projected increase would place crude near $112.50–$117.50. That range would exceed the previous 2026 closing high of just under $113 per barrel.

The central risk is the possibility that tensions disrupt production, transportation or exports across the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz is particularly important because it serves as a major transit route for global oil shipments. Any escalation affecting tanker movements or regional energy infrastructure could tighten available supply and increase shipping and insurance costs. However, the size and duration of any price increase would depend on the extent of actual disruptions, the availability of alternative supplies and market expectations about a diplomatic resolution.

Higher Crude Prices Could Challenge Equities and Inflation

A sustained oil rally would create competing effects across financial markets. Energy producers could benefit from stronger selling prices, but higher fuel and transportation costs would increase operating expenses for airlines, logistics companies, manufacturers and other energy-intensive businesses. If companies pass these costs to consumers, inflation could prove more persistent, potentially limiting the scope for interest-rate reductions by major central banks.

Equity markets have previously demonstrated some capacity to absorb energy-price shocks, but that resilience may not persist if higher crude prices coincide with slowing economic growth or weaker corporate earnings. For investors, the distinction between a temporary geopolitical premium and a prolonged supply shock is critical. A short-lived spike may have a limited economic impact, whereas sustained prices above $100 could place greater pressure on household purchasing power, profit margins and market valuations.

Implications for Israel and the Global Economic Outlook

For Israel, higher oil prices could increase fuel, transport and business costs, adding pressure to inflation and potentially complicating the Bank of Israel’s policy decisions. The shekel’s performance, global risk sentiment and domestic economic conditions would also influence the local impact. A stronger dollar alongside rising crude prices could make energy imports more expensive in shekel terms, although exchange-rate movements remain uncertain.

The outlook for the remainder of the week and beyond will depend on developments around Iran, the security of shipping routes and evidence of actual supply losses. Traders will also monitor crude inventories, production responses and diplomatic signals. Jones’s forecast represents a plausible risk scenario rather than a certainty: de-escalation, stronger supply from other producers or weaker global demand could moderate prices. For institutional investors, the key question is whether geopolitical risk remains a temporary premium or develops into a sustained energy shock with broader consequences for inflation, interest rates and economic growth.
