Tel Aviv Market Delivers a Mixed End to September

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange closed September 30 with a mixed session across the major equity benchmarks. Tel Aviv-35 declined 0.43% to 4,203.98, while Tel Aviv-125 slipped 0.21% to 4,075.62. In contrast, the broader Tel Aviv-90 advanced 0.57% to 3,691.18.

The session highlighted a divergence between the largest companies and broader segments of the market. While the main blue-chip benchmark remained under pressure, several broader indices recorded gains, with the Tel Aviv-SME60 posting a particularly strong advance.

Broader Market Segments Provide Support

The Tel Aviv-90 recorded 49 advancing securities against 39 decliners, indicating moderately positive breadth within the index. The Tel Aviv-200 also gained 0.26% to 3,910.34, with 117 advancing securities compared with 74 declines.

The Tel Aviv-SME60 was among the strongest performers, rising 1.54% to 1,324.14. Its market breadth was notably positive, with 47 advancers and only nine declining securities.

The Tel Aviv Sector-Balance index was nearly unchanged, edging 0.01% higher to 4,636.33. Meanwhile, the Tel Aviv 90 and banks index declined 0.18%, suggesting that financial shares did not fully participate in the broader gains.

The Tel Aviv-20 also fell 0.43%, matching the decline in the TA-35 and reinforcing the contrast between large-cap performance and several broader market segments.

Trading Activity Remains Elevated

Stock turnover reached approximately NIS 3.57 billion during the session, while bond turnover totaled approximately NIS 4.76 billion. Tel Aviv-125 generated approximately NIS 2.79 billion in turnover, while the Tel Aviv-200 recorded approximately NIS 2.86 billion.

Tel Aviv-35 turnover reached approximately NIS 2.02 billion, and the Tel Aviv Sector-Balance index recorded approximately NIS 2.66 billion. The level of activity indicates that the mixed market performance occurred alongside substantial participation across the equity and fixed-income markets.

El Al Leads Gains as Individual Stocks Diverge

Individual stock movements remained significant. El Al rose 7.93% to 1,850, making it the strongest notable gainer listed from the TA-125 Index for the session.

Canon moved in the opposite direction, declining 6.10% to 18,790. The contrasting moves demonstrate continued dispersion among individual companies despite the relatively limited changes in the headline indices.

The next trading sessions will provide a clearer indication of whether the strength in broader market segments can offset continued weakness in the largest benchmarks. Investors will be watching the TA-35 around 4,200 and the TA-125 around 4,075, while the TA-90’s ability to maintain its advance could provide an important signal about broader participation. The strong performance of the SME60, continued bond turnover, and individual-stock volatility will also remain important areas to monitor as the market moves into October.
