Key Points
- CORO gained 20.60% year to date through September 9, 2026, outperforming its MSCI ACWI ex-US benchmark's 13.68% return through August 31.
- The actively managed ETF rotates primarily among non-U.S. country ETFs, with Japan, Canada, Taiwan and South Korea among its largest geographic exposures.
- Its 0.55% net expense ratio and active country-selection strategy distinguish it from conventional international index ETFs.
As global equity leadership continues to shift between regions, active country allocation has become an alternative to maintaining a fixed international portfolio. The iShares International Country Rotation Active ETF, traded under the ticker CORO, seeks long-term capital appreciation by dynamically rotating among primarily non-U.S. country ETFs across developed and emerging markets.
Active Country Selection Drives the Strategy
CORO is managed by BlackRock’s Model Portfolio Solutions team, which uses forward-looking analysis to identify international markets it considers positioned for relative outperformance. Rather than tracking a fixed geographic allocation, the fund can adjust its exposure as market conditions and country-level opportunities change. Its benchmark is the MSCI ACWI ex-US Index, providing a reference point for performance against a broad universe of international equities.
The strategy gives the fund a different risk profile from traditional international ETFs. Country selection becomes an important performance driver, while changes in economic growth, interest rates, currencies, valuations and political or trade conditions can influence the attractiveness of individual markets.
Performance Has Outpaced the Broad Benchmark
CORO’s NAV total return reached 20.60% year to date through September 9, 2026. Through August 31, the fund’s six-month total return was 18.14%, compared with 13.68% for the MSCI ACWI ex-US Index. Over the same period, the fund’s one-year return reached 33.24%, versus 27.66% for the benchmark.
The ETF was launched on December 3, 2024, so its performance history remains relatively short. As of September 10, 2026, the fund had approximately $8.36 billion in net assets and a NAV of $36.65. Its 30-day SEC yield stood at 2.31% as of August 31.
Geographic Rotation Creates Concentration Risk
As of September 9, Japan represented 18.90% of the portfolio, followed by Canada at 13.08%, Taiwan at 9.37%, Switzerland at 8.24% and South Korea at 7.69%. Spain accounted for 6.83%, while the United Kingdom represented 5.51%.
Sector exposure was also concentrated, with financials accounting for 26.16% of the portfolio, information technology 20.60% and industrials 15.10%. This mix means that country rotation can create significant indirect exposure to particular sectors, currencies and regional economic cycles.
CORO carries a gross expense ratio of 1.06%, including a 0.55% management fee and 0.51% in acquired fund fees and expenses. Fee waivers reduce the net expense ratio to 0.55%. Going forward, investors will be watching whether active geographic positioning continues to add value relative to broad international benchmarks, while changes in global growth, central-bank policy, currency markets and regional valuations could materially alter the fund’s country allocations and performance.
