European markets ended the week on a positive note on August 7, 2026, with major equity benchmarks extending their recent rally as investors maintained confidence in the region’s corporate outlook. Germany once again led the advance, while France, the broader eurozone, and pan-European indices also posted gains. Although the euro and British pound weakened slightly, equity markets remained resilient, underscoring continued investor appetite for European stocks.

The session capped another constructive week for European markets, with broad participation across national and regional indices suggesting that optimism surrounding corporate earnings and economic stability continues to outweigh concerns about inflation, interest rates, and global growth.

Germany Leads Another Broad-Based Advance

Germany’s DAX recorded the strongest gain among the major European benchmarks, rising 0.52% to 26,277.24. The increase pushed the index to another record high, reinforcing investor confidence in Germany’s industrial, manufacturing, and export-driven economy. The benchmark continues to outperform many of its global peers as investors favor high-quality European industrial companies.

France’s CAC 40 also advanced, climbing 0.35% to 8,729.95. The gain extended the French market’s strong performance during the first week of August and reflected continued buying across large-cap stocks.

The solid performances in Europe’s two largest economies helped sustain the broader regional rally.

Regional Benchmarks Maintain Positive Trend

The EURO STOXX 50 gained 0.33% to 6,523.81, extending its recent upward trend as investors continued adding exposure to the eurozone’s leading companies.

The Euronext 100 Index rose 0.25% to 1,970.65, reflecting ongoing strength among multinational corporations operating throughout Europe.

Meanwhile, the MSCI Europe Index edged 0.12% higher to 2,890.87, indicating that the broader European equity market remained firmly supported despite a slower pace of gains compared with previous sessions.

The FTSE 100 also finished in positive territory, adding 0.13% to 10,882.06. Although the gain was modest, it demonstrated continued resilience in U.K. equities and contributed to the region’s broad-based advance.

European Currencies Ease Slightly

Unlike equities, currency markets ended the session lower. The Euro Index declined 0.26% to 115.24, while the British Pound Index slipped 0.07% to 134.54.

The modest pullback in both currencies contrasts with the continued strength in stock markets, suggesting investors remain more optimistic about European corporate earnings and equity valuations than short-term currency performance. The divergence between asset classes has remained a recurring feature throughout the recent rally.

Outlook

European markets closed the week with continued momentum, supported by fresh gains across major national and regional benchmarks. Germany’s DAX remains the standout performer, while steady advances in the CAC 40, EURO STOXX 50, Euronext 100, MSCI Europe Index, and FTSE 100 reinforce the broad-based nature of the rally. Although the euro and British pound softened slightly, equity markets continue to demonstrate resilience as investors focus on corporate earnings, macroeconomic data, inflation trends, and central bank guidance. If these factors remain supportive, European equities could continue setting new highs as August progresses.
