The company exceeded Wall Street expectations on revenue and adjusted earnings while raising its full-year outlook, signaling confidence in its ability to expand profitability during 2026.
Strong Quarterly Performance Supports Higher 2026 Guidance
3M reported quarterly revenue of $6.5 billion, above analyst expectations of $6.4 billion, representing a 2.4% increase compared with the same period last year. Adjusted earnings per share reached $2.40, exceeding estimates of $2.24 and increasing 11% year over year.

Company Raises Full-Year Forecast as Profitability Outlook Improves
Following the stronger quarterly results, 3M increased its adjusted full-year 2026 earnings guidance. The company now expects adjusted EPS of $8.80 to $8.95, compared with analyst expectations of approximately $8.74.
The revised outlook includes expectations for total sales growth above 4.5%, organic sales growth above 3.5%, and operating margin expansion of 70 to 80 basis points. The company also forecast adjusted operating cash flow between $5.8 billion and $6.0 billion for the year.
3M noted that its updated guidance does not yet include the impact of the Madison Fire & Rescue acquisition completed on July 1, leaving additional potential contributions from the transaction outside the current forecast framework.
AI Infrastructure Strategy Adds New Growth Opportunity
Beyond traditional industrial markets, 3M highlighted its expanding role in technology infrastructure through a partnership with Microsoft. The companies announced that Microsoft will deploy 3M’s Expanded Beam Optics technology for AI data center infrastructure.
The development reflects the broader investment cycle surrounding artificial intelligence infrastructure, where demand for higher-performance data center connectivity and optical solutions continues to accelerate. For 3M, the partnership represents an opportunity to participate in a rapidly expanding technology segment while leveraging its materials science expertise.
Going forward, investors will monitor whether 3M can sustain its improved operating performance, translate higher sales growth expectations into consistent earnings expansion, and capture additional opportunities linked to AI infrastructure investment. The company’s ability to execute its updated 2026 guidance while integrating recent acquisitions will remain a key focus for global markets.
