Key Points
- ASML is expected to post stronger second-quarter revenue and profit as AI-driven semiconductor investments continue accelerating worldwide.
- Investors will closely monitor whether management raises full-year guidance while providing updates on manufacturing capacity and customer demand through 2027.
- China export restrictions and ASML's premium valuation remain the principal risks that could influence the stock's performance despite favorable industry fundamentals.
ASML Holding is preparing to release its second-quarter earnings as investors seek confirmation that the world’s leading semiconductor equipment manufacturer can continue meeting surging artificial intelligence demand while navigating growing geopolitical headwinds. With memory producers, foundries, and AI infrastructure companies rapidly expanding manufacturing capacity, ASML remains central to the global chip supply chain. However, tightening U.S. export restrictions targeting China’s semiconductor industry have introduced new uncertainty that could influence the company’s long-term growth trajectory despite exceptionally strong demand.
AI Infrastructure Continues to Drive Equipment Demand
ASML has emerged as one of the primary beneficiaries of the global AI investment cycle. The Dutch company is the sole manufacturer of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems, the advanced machines required to produce cutting-edge semiconductors used in artificial intelligence processors.
Major customers including TSMC, SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, and Micron continue expanding fabrication capacity to meet accelerating demand for AI chips. Additional investments from companies such as Intel, along with ambitious AI infrastructure projects, are expected to support equipment orders well into the second half of the decade.
Analysts expect ASML to report second-quarter revenue of approximately €8.8 billion, representing 14% year-over-year growth, while net profit is forecast to rise nearly 9% to €2.61 billion. Several analysts also anticipate management will increase its current full-year revenue outlook of €36 billion to €40 billion, reflecting stronger-than-expected customer demand.
Capacity Expansion Faces Both Opportunity and Constraints
One of the key questions surrounding ASML’s earnings will be whether production capacity can keep pace with customer orders. Industry analysts believe much of the company’s manufacturing capacity through 2027 may already be committed, underscoring the strength of long-term demand.
Chief Executive Christophe Fouquet has emphasized that ASML is working to avoid becoming an industry bottleneck by improving installation efficiency, upgrading existing systems, and accelerating equipment assembly. While the company currently plans to deliver approximately 60 EUV systems this year and 80 next year, analysts believe production could eventually exceed those targets without significant expansion of manufacturing facilities.
ASML has also strengthened its supply chain by securing additional long-lead components, including precision optics from Zeiss and laser systems from Trumpf, reducing the likelihood of production delays similar to those experienced during the pandemic.
Export Controls and Valuation Remain Key Investor Concerns
Despite robust industry fundamentals, geopolitical uncertainty continues to weigh on investor sentiment. Proposed U.S. legislation could require allied nations to strengthen export controls designed to limit China’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. Although ASML does not sell its most advanced EUV systems to China, the country still represents an important market for its less advanced deep ultraviolet (DUV) equipment, accounting for an estimated 20% of annual sales.
At the same time, valuation has become an increasingly debated issue. Following a share price rally of nearly 70% this year, ASML trades at elevated earnings multiples that leave limited room for disappointment. Some analysts believe the company’s current valuation already reflects much of the anticipated AI growth, while others argue that long-term revenue forecasts remain too conservative given the expanding semiconductor investment cycle.
ASML’s earnings report is likely to serve as an important indicator for the broader semiconductor industry. Investors will focus not only on quarterly financial performance but also on management’s commentary regarding production capacity, customer order visibility, China-related regulatory developments, and long-term demand driven by artificial intelligence. Together, these factors will help determine whether ASML can continue supporting the next phase of the global AI infrastructure expansion.
