Dr. Xianming Liu, Head of XPENG’s General Intelligence Center, participated in the inaugural Workshop on Deployment of Foundation Models for Embodied AI, joining industry leaders from Tesla, Nvidia, and Waymo to discuss the future of physical AI.
The appearance marked XPENG’s third participation at the conference and underscored the company’s growing influence in advanced AI development.
VLA2.0 Reaches Mass Production Milestone
A major focus of XPENG’s presentation was the advancement of its proprietary VLA2.0 foundation model.
Originally introduced at CVPR 2025, VLA2.0 has now transitioned from research and development into large-scale commercial deployment. According to XPENG, the model achieved an industry milestone by surpassing a 50% assisted-driving mileage share within its first month of operation.
The company described this achievement as a successful demonstration of its ability to move from concept development to mass-market deployment, creating a closed-loop AI ecosystem from research to commercialization.
World Model Expands Physical AI Capabilities
XPENG also unveiled details of its evolving world model architecture, which serves as another core component of its Physical AI strategy.
Management explained that while VLA2.0 focuses on learning how actions should be performed based on human driving behavior, the world model focuses on predicting how environments evolve after those actions occur.
Together, the two systems form what XPENG calls its Physical-World Foundation Model, designed to improve understanding, prediction, and decision-making in real-world environments.
To support this initiative, XPENG’s research team has published three technical papers: X-World, X-Foresight, and X-Cache.
Robotaxi and Humanoid Robot Programs Accelerate
Beyond intelligent driving, XPENG is expanding its Physical AI ecosystem into autonomous mobility and robotics.
The company continues developing its Robotaxi platform while also advancing its IRON humanoid robot project.
Management confirmed that IRON remains on track for mass production by the end of 2026. XPENG plans to deploy the robots in its retail stores beginning in the first quarter of 2027, where they are expected to serve as customer-facing shopping assistants.
South Korea and Global Expansion Opportunities
XPENG’s latest announcements come as competition in physical AI intensifies globally.
The company views AI-powered mobility, autonomous driving, robotics, and physical-world foundation models as interconnected technologies that can support future transportation and automation ecosystems.
