TomTom, the Dutch digital mapping specialist, reported stronger-than-expected operating profit for the first quarter, even as revenue declined. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) reached 13.8 million euros ($16.3 million), significantly exceeding analyst expectations of around 7 million euros and improving from 5.7 million euros in the same period last year. The results highlight the company’s improving profitability following internal restructuring efforts.

Reorganization Drives Margin Expansion

The profit growth was largely driven by higher margins and reduced operating expenses after TomTom completed a company-wide reorganization last year. The restructuring appears to be delivering early results, with cost efficiencies helping offset top-line pressure and improving overall operational performance.

Revenue Declines Amid Contract Transition

Despite the profit strength, TomTom reported lower revenue of 129.2 million euros, down from 140.4 million euros in 2025 and broadly in line with analyst expectations of 130 million euros. The decline was attributed to a transition between older and newer contracts, which the company expects to continue weighing on revenue in the near term.

Key Partnerships Remain Intact

TomTom continues to maintain relationships with major global clients, including Microsoft, Uber, and Volkswagen. These partnerships remain central to its long-term strategy, particularly as demand grows for navigation, location data, and autonomous driving technologies.

Outlook for 2026 Remains Unchanged

The company reaffirmed its full-year revenue outlook for 2026, signaling confidence in its transition strategy despite short-term revenue headwinds. Management expects the shift toward newer contracts to support future growth, even if near-term performance remains uneven.
