Israeli equities finished higher on Wednesday, August 12, as large-cap stocks staged a strong rebound following the mixed performance of the previous session. The main benchmark indexes benefited from renewed buying interest, although the recovery remained uneven across the market.

The TA-35 recorded the strongest performance among the major equity benchmarks, while mid-cap stocks continued to struggle. At the same time, Israeli bond indexes moved lower, creating a clear contrast between equity and fixed-income performance.

Large-Cap Stocks Drive the Recovery

The TA-35 Index advanced 1.13% to close at 4,205.99 points. Market breadth was strongly positive, with 25 advancing securities and only 11 decliners. No securities were unchanged.

The broader TA-125 Index climbed 0.79% to 4,065.22 points. However, its market breadth remained less convincing, with 51 advancing stocks compared with 71 declining securities and four unchanged.

Stock market turnover totaled approximately NIS 4.10 billion, reflecting solid trading activity during the rebound.

The stronger performance of the TA-35 compared with the broader market suggests that investors continued to favor larger, more established companies while remaining selective elsewhere.

Mid-Cap Stocks Continue to Lag

The TA-90 Index declined 0.59% to close at 3,621.04 points. Only 26 securities advanced, compared with 60 decliners and four unchanged issues.

The divergence was particularly notable because the TA-90 and Banks Index managed a modest 0.07% gain, closing at 3,885.70 points. Thirty-one securities advanced while 60 declined, indicating that the index’s positive performance was not supported by broad participation.

The TA-125 Value Index rose 0.45% to 4,029.91 points. Market breadth was again negative, with 24 gainers against 30 decliners and two unchanged securities.

The Tel Aviv Sector-Balance Index gained 0.58% to 4,572.96 points, despite 53 declining securities compared with 45 advancing stocks.

These figures point to a market where index-level gains were driven primarily by stronger performance from selected large-cap companies rather than a broad-based advance.

Bond Market Moves Lower

Fixed-income securities weakened during Wednesday’s session after several periods of relative stability.

The All-Bond General Index declined 0.12% to close at 432.24 points. Bond market breadth was sharply negative, with 467 declining securities compared with only 74 gainers and 74 unchanged issues.

The Short-Term Bond Index remained unchanged at 477.62 points, providing a measure of stability within the fixed-income market.

Corporate bonds also declined. The Tel Bond-Adjoined A Index fell 0.07% to 439.05 points, while the Tel Bond 60 Adjacent Index dropped 0.17% to 428.34 points.

Bond market turnover reached approximately NIS 5.35 billion, exceeding stock market turnover and indicating significant activity despite the decline in bond indexes.

Market Outlook

Wednesday’s trading highlighted the continued divergence within Israeli financial markets. Large-cap equities regained momentum, lifting the TA-35 and TA-125, while mid-cap shares remained under pressure. The weak breadth across several indexes suggests that investors have not yet embraced a broad-based recovery. Meanwhile, the decline in bond indexes and heavy bond-market activity point to continued repositioning among fixed-income investors. Going forward, market breadth, corporate earnings, economic developments, interest-rate expectations, and geopolitical conditions will remain important factors in determining whether the large-cap rebound can spread to the wider Israeli equity market.
