Key Points
- Oklo achieved a major milestone by bringing its Groves isotope facility to first criticality in less than 11 months, marking the fastest privately funded greenfield reactor to reach criticality.
- The company strengthened its long-term growth strategy through new fuel supply agreements, Department of Energy support, and continued expansion of its manufacturing capabilities.
- Despite significant operational progress, Oklo increased its projected cash spending for 2026 as it accelerates reactor deployment, fuel development, and infrastructure investments.
Oklo Inc. (NYSE: OKLO) reported significant operational achievements during its second-quarter 2026 earnings call, highlighting rapid progress toward commercializing its advanced nuclear technology while acknowledging higher investment requirements to support its long-term expansion plans.
The company emphasized that execution across reactor development, fuel supply, manufacturing, and artificial intelligence initiatives continues to position it for future growth as demand for clean baseload power increases.
Reactor Development Reaches Major Milestone
Oklo announced that its Groves isotope facility achieved first criticality less than 11 months after groundbreaking, establishing what the company described as the fastest privately funded greenfield reactor to reach this milestone.
The achievement demonstrates the company’s ability to execute complex nuclear development projects on an accelerated timeline while advancing its broader commercialization strategy.
In another regulatory milestone, the Department of Energy approved the Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis (PDSA) for the Aurora-INL project, further reducing regulatory uncertainty ahead of the company’s targeted 2028 startup.
Fuel Supply and Strategic Partnerships Expand
Oklo continued strengthening its long-term fuel strategy by signing a letter of intent with Centrus to supply High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) for up to five Aurora powerhouses beginning in 2029.
Management also noted that the company is developing multiple fuel pathways, including commercial HALEU, government plutonium, and fuel recycling technologies, reducing reliance on any single fuel source.
The company also secured a $60 million Phase I award through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Genesis mission, supporting continued development of nuclear and artificial intelligence technologies.
Partnerships with NVIDIA and Los Alamos National Laboratory are expected to accelerate reactor design, fuel validation, and engineering workflows through advanced AI applications.
Strong Liquidity Supports Expansion
Oklo ended the second quarter with approximately $3 billion in cash and marketable securities, providing substantial financial flexibility to fund future reactor deployments, acquisitions, and technology development.
Recent acquisitions of ARMEC and Creative Engineers have expanded the company’s in-house engineering and manufacturing capabilities, allowing greater control over production while improving deployment efficiency across future projects.
Management also indicated it is evaluating customer prepayments and other partner financing arrangements that could reduce capital requirements for future reactor deployments.
Higher Spending Reflects Growth Investments
Despite operational progress, Oklo reported a year-to-date net loss of $81.6 million, while operating cash usage increased to $65.5 million as development activities accelerated.
The company raised its 2026 operating cash flow guidance to $120 million–$150 million, up from its previous forecast of $80 million–$100 million. Expected capital expenditures were also increased to $400 million–$500 million, reflecting greater investment in reactor development, infrastructure, and manufacturing capabilities.
Management acknowledged that commercialization of certain businesses, including isotope production and fuel recycling, remains in the early stages, with meaningful isotope revenue not expected until early 2027.
Outlook Remains Focused on Long-Term Deployment
While Oklo continues making progress toward commercial reactor deployment, investors remain focused on several uncertainties, including Department of Energy fuel allocations, regulatory approvals, interconnection timelines, and overall project costs.
The company also faces execution risks associated with simultaneously integrating acquisitions, expanding manufacturing capacity, and advancing multiple reactor projects.
Closing Insights
Oklo’s second-quarter update showcased meaningful progress toward commercializing advanced nuclear technology, supported by significant regulatory achievements, expanded fuel partnerships, and a strong cash position. Although higher capital spending and ongoing development costs will likely weigh on near-term financial performance, management continues to prioritize long-term deployment, recurring revenue opportunities, and strategic investments designed to position the company as a leading provider of advanced nuclear energy solutions.
