Key Points
- MongoDB reported second-quarter revenue of $771.8 million, exceeding expectations and increasing 30% year over year.
- The company’s Atlas cloud database platform remained the primary growth driver, with revenue rising 29% year over year as enterprises accelerate AI adoption.
- MongoDB raised its fiscal 2027 outlook after reporting stronger profitability, improved cash generation, and growing demand for AI-related database capabilities.
MongoDB delivered a stronger-than-expected quarterly performance as demand for cloud databases and artificial intelligence infrastructure continued to reshape enterprise technology spending. The company’s results highlight the increasing importance of data management platforms as organizations deploy more advanced AI applications that require scalable, real-time access to information.
For the second quarter, MongoDB generated $771.8 million in revenue, above analyst expectations of $734 million and representing 30% year-over-year growth. Adjusted earnings per share reached $1.90, significantly exceeding the $1.61 estimate, while adjusted operating profitability improved as the company expanded its cloud-based services.
Atlas Cloud Platform Remains the Core Growth Engine
The company’s Atlas platform, its fully managed cloud database service, continued to drive expansion. Atlas revenue reached $565.9 million, increasing 29% year over year and accounting for the majority of MongoDB’s quarterly revenue. The platform has benefited from rising demand among enterprises seeking flexible database infrastructure to support cloud migration and artificial intelligence workloads.
MongoDB’s Enterprise Advanced and Other segment generated $181.2 million in revenue, rising 36% year over year, while Services revenue increased 29% year over year to $24.6 million. These results demonstrate continued adoption across both large organizations and emerging technology companies.
The company also reported $1.52 billion in remaining performance obligations (RPO), representing a 91% increase from the previous year. This metric reflects contracted future revenue and provides visibility into customer commitments as businesses continue investing in digital infrastructure.
AI Adoption Creates New Demand for Database Infrastructure
The rapid development of artificial intelligence applications has increased the strategic importance of database technology. AI systems require access to large amounts of structured and unstructured information, creating demand for platforms that can process, store, and retrieve data efficiently.
MongoDB has positioned its technology around these changing requirements, including support for vector search capabilities that allow enterprises to integrate AI models with proprietary business data. The company also launched an Atlas Managed MCP Server, expanding its tools for developers building AI-powered applications.
The broader technology market is experiencing a shift where AI investment is extending beyond semiconductor hardware and cloud computing capacity into software infrastructure layers. Database providers are becoming an important part of the AI ecosystem as companies seek reliable systems to manage increasingly complex workloads.
Improved Profitability Supports Higher Full-Year Guidance
MongoDB raised its fiscal 2027 guidance, projecting revenue between $2.99 billion and $3.03 billion, above previous expectations of $2.95 billion. The company also increased its adjusted earnings forecast to between $6.39 and $6.58 per share.
Financial performance improved across several areas, with non-GAAP operating income expected between $616.3 million and $636.3 million. Free cash flow reached $137.6 million during the quarter, nearly doubling compared with the previous year, highlighting stronger cash generation.
Going forward, investors will monitor whether MongoDB can maintain its growth trajectory as competition increases in the cloud database market. Key factors include enterprise AI adoption, demand for cloud services, expansion of Atlas subscriptions, and the company’s ability to balance continued innovation with sustainable profitability.
