Meta is preparing to bring more autonomous artificial intelligence capabilities directly to consumers through a planned platform known internally as “Hatch.” The agent is designed to move beyond conventional chatbot interactions by completing multi-step tasks on behalf of users, highlighting the accelerating shift toward AI systems that can take actions rather than simply generate responses.

Meta Moves Toward Consumer AI Agents

Hatch is being developed as a consumer version of Meta’s OpenClaw-inspired AI agent and is expected to perform a range of practical tasks. According to reporting based on internal documents, the system has been trained to interact with websites and could handle activities such as creating software tools, scheduling events on users’ calendars and sending emails on their behalf.

The platform is expected to allow users to describe what they want in natural language and have the AI execute the required steps. For example, a user could ask Hatch to create a simple application or organize a schedule without needing to manually navigate multiple websites and software tools.

Meta has been testing the technology in controlled web environments designed to simulate services including DoorDash, Etsy, Reddit, Yelp and Outlook. The approach reflects the company’s broader effort to develop AI agents capable of operating across digital environments rather than remaining confined to a conversational interface.

Hatch Could Create a New Revenue Stream for Meta

The development of Hatch also has a significant commercial dimension for Meta. Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has been investing heavily in AI infrastructure, computing capacity and model development, increasing the importance of turning those investments into products and revenue.

Meta has reportedly considered a tiered pricing structure for Hatch, including a premium subscription that could cost as much as $199.99 per month and provide higher usage limits. If implemented, such pricing would place Hatch directly alongside high-end AI subscriptions from competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic.

For Meta, a successful consumer AI agent could provide an additional revenue channel beyond its advertising business. It could also strengthen the company’s broader ecosystem by encouraging users to rely on Meta-powered AI for productivity, communication and other daily activities.

Competition and Risks Increase as AI Becomes More Autonomous

The launch would place Meta in an increasingly competitive market as technology companies race to develop AI agents capable of completing real-world tasks. Meta has also publicly described its broader vision of personal AI agents that can work on users’ behalf across areas including productivity, finances, home management and other activities.

However, greater autonomy also introduces additional risks. Agents that can access email accounts, calendars, websites and other personal information require strong security and privacy controls. Errors in executing tasks or unauthorized actions could create reputational, regulatory and financial consequences for both users and technology providers.

Meta reportedly aims to launch Hatch within the coming weeks, although the final product name, pricing and features could change before release. Investors will be watching adoption rates, subscription economics and the agent’s ability to compete with established AI platforms. The success of Hatch could provide an important indication of whether autonomous AI agents can develop into a meaningful consumer business and help Meta generate returns from its rapidly expanding AI investments.
