Google has hired Barret Zoph as Vice President of Research, adding a senior artificial-intelligence researcher with experience at Google, OpenAI and Thinking Machines Lab to its AI organization. Barret Zoph Brings Deep AI Research Experience to Google

Zoph has an extensive background in artificial-intelligence research. He previously worked at Google Brain, where he contributed to research involving machine learning and neural-network technologies, before moving to OpenAI and later becoming a co-founder of Thinking Machines Lab.

At Thinking Machines Lab, Zoph served as chief technology officer, working alongside former OpenAI executive Mira Murati. His return to Google is particularly significant because the company has continued to expand its AI research capabilities through Google DeepMind.
