Ford Revisits Earlier Recall Repairs

Ford Motor Company is once again recalling thousands of its flagship F-150 pickup trucks after an internal audit revealed that some vehicles did not receive the correct software updates during previous recall repairs.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford identified two separate issues involving vehicles that had already undergone recall service but may not have been properly fixed.

The combined recalls affect approximately 101,940 vehicles, making it one of the latest quality-control challenges facing the automaker.

Daytime Running Light Issue Resurfaces

The first recall involves a software defect affecting the truck’s daytime running lights (DRLs).

Ford found that in certain vehicles, the DRLs may fail to dim when drivers manually switch from the “Autolamp” setting to the “headlamp on” position. As a result, both the daytime running lights and low-beam headlights may remain illuminated simultaneously, potentially creating excessive brightness and reducing visibility for oncoming motorists.

The issue stems from an incorrect software installation during a previous recall repair process.

Transmission Display Defect Raises Safety Concerns

The second recall affects certain 2018 Ford F-150 models equipped with a 3.3-liter engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

In affected vehicles, rapidly shifting the transmission lever from Park to Drive may cause the gear selection indicator to disappear from the instrument cluster. In some cases, the vehicle could briefly engage Reverse before moving into Drive, potentially leading to unintended vehicle movement.

Approximately 10,742 trucks are impacted by this transmission-related defect.

F-150 Remains Critical to Ford’s Business

The recalls are particularly significant because the F-150 remains Ford’s most important vehicle line.

The F-Series has been America’s best-selling truck for decades and generates substantial profits for the company, with higher-end models often selling for more than $100,000.

Any quality issues affecting the F-150 can have an outsized impact on customer satisfaction, brand reputation, and financial performance.

Growing Recall Pressure

Ford has faced increasing scrutiny over vehicle quality and recall frequency in recent years.

Reports indicate the company has already issued more than 50 recalls during 2026 and remains on pace to surpass previous recall records.

Repeat repairs can be especially damaging because customers who already visited dealerships for an earlier fix may now be required to return again for the same issue.

This creates additional inconvenience for vehicle owners while increasing warranty and service costs for Ford.

Ford Defends Its Safety Strategy

Despite the growing number of recalls, Ford maintains that many of its recent actions reflect a more proactive safety approach rather than worsening vehicle quality.

The company has expanded its team of safety and technical specialists over the past two years in an effort to identify and correct defects before they result in accidents or widespread customer complaints.

Ford executives have emphasized that early detection and corrective action remain a priority as the company works to improve overall quality performance.

Ford has also stated that owners who previously paid out-of-pocket to repair these issues may be eligible for reimbursement.
