Key Points

  • Rockwell Automation has joined Project Glasswing, an Anthropic initiative focused on applying advanced AI to cybersecurity across critical infrastructure, including connected industrial environments.
  • Rockwell enters the initiative from a position of strong operating momentum, with Q3 fiscal 2026 sales rising 8% year over year to $2.31 billion and adjusted EPS increasing 22% to $3.49.
  • The company raised its fiscal 2026 outlook, now expecting reported and organic sales growth of 7.5% to 9.5% and adjusted EPS of $13 to $13.30, while investors assess whether AI and cybersecurity can generate additional long-term growth.

Rockwell Automation is expanding its artificial-intelligence narrative by joining Project Glasswing, an initiative designed to use advanced AI capabilities to identify and address cybersecurity vulnerabilities across critical infrastructure. The development is particularly relevant to Rockwell because its automation technologies operate across factories, warehouses, semiconductor facilities and other connected industrial environments.

Project Glasswing gives Rockwell an opportunity to apply AI in a controlled defensive environment, potentially helping identify software vulnerabilities more quickly and strengthen the resilience of connected industrial products. Rather than representing an entirely new business line, the initiative builds on cybersecurity capabilities Rockwell already provides to industrial customers.

Connected Factories Increase the Importance of Cybersecurity

The strategic significance extends beyond software security. As industrial facilities become increasingly connected, cyber incidents can potentially disrupt physical operations in addition to compromising information. Manufacturing systems, industrial controls and automated equipment can therefore require protection designed specifically around operational technology.

For Rockwell, that creates a natural connection between automation, software and cybersecurity. If industrial customers continue increasing their reliance on connected systems, security could become an increasingly important component of the broader factory-digitization investment cycle.

Q3 Results Provide Support for the Broader Growth Story

Rockwell’s latest quarterly results showed continued demand across several important markets. Fiscal Q3 2026 sales reached $2.31 billion, an 8% year-over-year increase, while organic sales grew 10%. Adjusted EPS rose 22% to $3.49 from $2.85 a year earlier.

Software and Control was the strongest segment, with revenue increasing 19% to $751 million. Intelligent Devices revenue rose 12% to $1.08 billion. Lifecycle Services revenue declined 12% to $482 million, partly reflecting divestitures.

Net income increased to $408 million from $295 million, while free cash flow reached $654 million compared with $489 million in the year-ago quarter. Cash and cash equivalents stood at $479 million.

Rockwell Raises Fiscal 2026 Expectations

Management subsequently raised its fiscal 2026 outlook. Rockwell now expects both reported and organic sales growth between 7.5% and 9.5%, alongside adjusted EPS of $13 to $13.30. The company’s outlook is supported by demand from semiconductors, data centers and warehouse automation, with automotive and life sciences activity also showing improvement.

The company also authorized a new $1 billion share repurchase program in June, providing another potential mechanism for returning capital to shareholders while the business continues investing in its technology portfolio.

Valuation Expectations Remain a Key Consideration

Analyst expectations remain varied. Recent targets cited in the source range from $490 to $545, reflecting different assumptions about Rockwell’s growth prospects and how much future performance is already incorporated into the share price. Overall, 25 analysts covering the company had a consensus Moderate Buy rating, with an average price target of $485.22.

Rockwell shares have gained roughly 19% over the past year but remain below their June 52-week high of $497.36. The pullback means investors are weighing strong operating results against questions surrounding industrial-market momentum and the sustainability of technology-related spending.

What Could Investors Watch Next?

Project Glasswing adds another dimension to Rockwell’s long-term automation strategy, but its financial impact will depend on execution. The immediate investment case remains more closely tied to sales growth, margins, cash generation and demand across industrial end markets than to the new AI initiative itself.

The next indicators to watch will include adoption of cybersecurity solutions, progress in factory digitization and demand from semiconductors, data centers and warehouse automation. If Rockwell can combine its existing industrial footprint with stronger AI-enabled cybersecurity capabilities, the technology could become an incremental component of its broader growth strategy.
