Costco Wholesale is preparing another expansion of its U.S. warehouse network, with 10 new locations scheduled to open across nine states during October and November. The rollout comes as the retailer continues to report strong sales growth, reinforcing the scale of its membership-based business model as U.S. consumers remain focused on value and household spending.

Where Costco Will Open Its New Locations

Five new Costco warehouses are scheduled to open in October. The locations are Lee’s Summit, Missouri; The Colony, Texas; Amherst, New York; Lawrence, Kansas; and Camarillo, California. Costco’s official list identifies these sites as upcoming October openings, although specific opening dates have not been announced for every location.

Five additional U.S. warehouses are scheduled for November. They will be located in South Meridian, Idaho; Vallejo, California; Chandler, Arizona; Newport News, Virginia; and Franklin, Wisconsin. The Chandler location will operate as a Costco Business Center, a format that places greater emphasis on products and services for business customers.

The 10 U.S. openings form part of a broader North American expansion. Costco is also planning four additional warehouses in Canada before the end of November.

Expansion Follows Strong Sales Growth

Costco’s expansion is being supported by continued sales momentum. For the 52-week fiscal year ended August 30, 2026, the company reported net sales of $297.3 billion, an increase of 10.2% from $269.9 billion in the previous fiscal year. Fourth-quarter net sales reached $93.9 billion, representing an 11.3% increase from a year earlier.

Comparable sales also remained strong. U.S. comparable sales increased 8.2% for the full fiscal year, while comparable sales in Canada rose 7.8%. Sales outside the U.S. and Canada increased 9.8% on a comparable basis. In August alone, U.S. comparable sales climbed 9.0%.

Costco ended the fiscal year with 939 warehouses globally, including 647 in the United States and Puerto Rico. The size of that network provides the company with a broad platform for adding members and increasing sales while expanding its geographic reach.

A Long-Term Expansion Strategy

The upcoming openings are part of a longer-term growth strategy. Costco has indicated that it intends to open at least 30 warehouses annually over the next five to 10 years, with roughly half of new locations expected to be in the United States and the remainder in international markets.

For investors, the important question is not simply how many warehouses Costco opens, but whether new locations can sustain the company’s sales and membership growth while generating sufficient returns on the capital invested in construction, logistics, staffing and operations.

The expansion also illustrates Costco’s approach to the U.S. retail market. Rather than relying solely on higher spending at existing warehouses, the company is continuing to increase its physical footprint and bring its membership model to additional communities.

Going forward, investors will be watching comparable sales, membership trends and the pace of warehouse openings alongside Costco’s international expansion. The ability to maintain strong sales growth while expanding the network at scale will remain an important indicator of the company’s operating momentum and longer-term growth trajectory.
