- South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index led regional gains, advancing 2.24% to 5,859.08, recovering from its previous reported decline of 3.48%.
- India’s S&P BSE SENSEX climbed 1.66% to 75,692.78, while China’s SSE Composite Index gained 1.08% to 3,638.03.

Asian Markets Recover as Major Benchmarks Advance
Asian markets recorded a broadly positive performance on November 1, 2026, with South Korea, India and mainland China leading gains across the region. The KOSPI Composite Index posted the strongest advance among the listed equity benchmarks, while the S&P BSE SENSEX also recorded a substantial increase. However, declines in Japan and Australia limited the breadth of the recovery.
South Korea’s KOSPI climbed 2.24% to 5,859.08, gaining 128.34 points from its previous reported close of 5,730.74. The advance followed a 3.48% decline on October 30, marking a significant recovery for the benchmark.
India’s S&P BSE SENSEX rose 1.66% to 75,692.78, adding 1,145.98 points from its previous reported close of 74,546.80. The index moved above the 75,000 level, extending its positive momentum from the previous session.
China’s SSE Composite Index advanced 1.08% to 3,638.03, recovering part of its recent losses.
South Korea and India Lead Regional Gains
The KOSPI’s 2.24% increase represented the strongest performance among the listed equity indices. Despite the rebound, the benchmark remained below its October 28 level of 6,012.44, highlighting the volatility experienced during the recent sessions.
India’s SENSEX delivered the second-largest gain, rising above 75,600. Its 1.66% advance followed a 0.53% increase on October 30, giving the index two consecutive positive reported sessions.
The SSE Composite added 39.01 points to reach 3,638.03, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.42% to 23,393.32. These advances indicated improving performance across several major Asian markets.
Japan and Australia Remain Under Pressure
Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 0.33% to 63,081.86, losing 208.25 points from its previous reported close of 63,290.11. The benchmark remained above 63,000 but continued to face pressure following its 2.12% decline on October 30.
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.58% to 8,856.50, declining 51.60 points from its previous close of 8,908.10. The retreat reversed part of its recent gains and brought the index below 8,900.
The contrasting performance in Japan and Australia demonstrated that the regional recovery remained uneven.
Currency and Private Equity Indicators
The PHLX Yen edged up 0.06% to 63.46, while the Australian Dollar Currency Index slipped 0.03% to 70.30. Both indicators recorded relatively limited movements.
The APAC Private Equity index declined 0.27% to 6,913.93, reversing part of its previous session’s modest recovery. Its performance contrasted with the gains across most listed Asian equity benchmarks.
Philippines Stock Exchange Closed for All Souls’ Day
The Philippines Stock Exchange was closed for All Souls’ Day on November 1. The holiday closure meant that no active trading session was recorded for the exchange in the supplied market data.
Outlook
The November 1 session showed a recovery across several major Asian equity markets, led by South Korea and India. However, continued weakness in Japan and Australia suggests that regional performance remains differentiated. Investors may monitor whether the KOSPI can move closer to 6,000, whether the SENSEX can maintain its position above 75,000, and whether the Nikkei and ASX 200 stabilize following their recent declines.
