Asian Markets Deliver Mixed Performance

Asian markets recorded a mixed performance on November 3, 2026, as strong gains in India contrasted with renewed selling pressure in South Korea and mainland China. Hong Kong and Australia also advanced, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 remained unchanged from its previous reported level.

India’s S&P BSE SENSEX climbed 1.62% to 76,917.85, gaining 1,225.07 points from its previous reported close of 75,692.78. The advance extended the benchmark’s positive momentum and brought it closer to the 77,000 threshold.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng increased 0.57% to 23,525.97, adding 132.65 points from its previous reported level of 23,393.32. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 advanced 0.34% to 8,886.80, recovering modestly after its previous session’s decline.

The gains across these markets were offset by weakness in South Korea and China, highlighting continued divergence across regional equity markets.

KOSPI Leads Regional Declines

South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index fell 3.59% to 5,648.79, losing 210.29 points from its previous reported close of 5,859.08. The decline reversed the benchmark’s 2.24% advance in the previous reported session and represented the largest percentage loss among the listed equity indices.

The latest movement also continued the index’s volatile pattern following its sharp 6.63% rally on October 28 and subsequent declines.

China’s SSE Composite Index dropped 0.82% to 3,608.10, declining 29.93 points from its previous reported level of 3,638.03. The decline extended the pressure on mainland Chinese equities following their recent fluctuations.

Japan and Australia Show Contrasting Stability

Japan’s Nikkei 225 remained unchanged at 63,081.86, showing no movement from its previous reported level. The benchmark’s flat performance contrasted with the larger percentage changes recorded elsewhere in the region.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.34% to 8,886.80, adding 30.30 points. Despite the advance, the index remained below the 8,900 level.

The contrasting results suggest that regional market conditions remain uneven, with India recording the strongest gain while Japan showed little movement.

Currency and Private Equity Indicators

The Australian Dollar Currency Index declined 0.41% to 70.01, recording the largest percentage loss among the listed non-equity indicators.

The PHLX Yen fell 0.20% to 63.33, while APAC Private Equity slipped 0.08% to 6,908.22. These relatively modest declines contrasted with the sharper movement in South Korea’s equity market.

Outlook

The latest Asian market session highlighted India’s continued strength alongside renewed weakness in South Korea and mainland China. Investors may monitor whether the SENSEX can approach and sustain the 77,000 level, while assessing whether the KOSPI can stabilize following its latest decline. The direction of the Hang Seng and SSE Composite will also remain important in determining whether regional performance becomes more broadly aligned or continues to diverge.
