Key Points
- FTSE 100 fell 1.04% to 10,655.30, recording the largest decline among the major European equity benchmarks.
- All six major equity indexes closed lower, with the MSCI Europe down 0.43% and the DAX declining 0.18%.
- European Private Equity gained 0.20%, while the British Pound and Euro indexes fell 0.27% and 0.25%, respectively.
European Markets Move Lower
European markets weakened on October 27, with all six major equity benchmarks recording losses. The FTSE 100 posted the steepest decline, falling 1.04% to 10,655.30, while the MSCI Europe dropped 0.43% to 2,717.86.
The CAC 40 declined 0.37% to 7,818.34, while the EURO STOXX 50 fell 0.31% to 6,097.09. The Euronext 100 lost 0.26% to 1,852.32, and the DAX slipped 0.18% to 25,364.72.
The broad declines marked a weaker session across European equity markets, reversing the modest gain recorded by the MSCI Europe in the previous session.
Major European Equity Benchmarks Retreat
The FTSE 100 led the regional declines, falling by more than 1%. The MSCI Europe recorded the next-largest loss, followed by the CAC 40 and EURO STOXX 50. The Euronext 100 and DAX experienced comparatively smaller declines but also finished lower.
The synchronized losses across all six major equity benchmarks reflected a broadly negative session rather than weakness concentrated in a single market.
European Private Equity moved in the opposite direction, gaining 0.20% to 10,571.67. This modest increase made it the only listed market indicator to finish higher.
European Currencies Weaken
Currency indexes also declined on October 27. The PHLX British Pound fell 0.27% to 133.42, while the PHLX Euro decreased 0.25% to 111.76.
Both currencies weakened as European equity benchmarks moved lower, extending the negative direction across most of the supplied market indicators.
Outlook
European markets enter the next session following broad equity losses, led by the FTSE 100’s decline of 1.04%. The DAX recorded the smallest loss among the six major equity benchmarks, while European Private Equity posted a modest gain.
Investors will monitor whether the recent weakness persists or whether the major indexes stabilize in the next session. Currency movements will also remain in focus after both the euro and pound indexes declined.
