Key Points
- EURO STOXX 50 gained 0.65% to 6,213.63, leading the major European equity benchmarks.
- DAX and FTSE 100 advanced 0.59% and 0.58%, respectively, as all six major equity indexes closed higher.
- Currency indexes were mixed, with the British Pound rising 0.02% and the Euro declining 0.07%.
European markets rebounded on October 12, with all six major equity benchmarks posting gains. The EURO STOXX 50 led the advance, rising 0.65% to 6,213.63, followed by the DAX, which gained 0.59% to 25,235.10.
The FTSE 100 advanced 0.58% to 10,613.34, while the Euronext 100 climbed 0.50% to 1,869.09. The MSCI Europe added 0.46% to 2,707.11, and the CAC 40 increased 0.41% to 7,835.14.
The gains marked a recovery following the broad declines recorded in the previous reported session on October 8, when all major European equity benchmarks closed lower.
Major European Equity Benchmarks Move Higher
The positive performance extended across the region, with every listed equity index finishing higher. The EURO STOXX 50 recorded the strongest percentage gain, while the CAC 40 posted the most modest advance.
The DAX and FTSE 100 also delivered solid gains, rising 0.59% and 0.58%, respectively. Meanwhile, the Euronext 100 and MSCI Europe advanced by 0.50% and 0.46%.
The consistent upward movement across the six benchmarks points to a broad-based recovery rather than gains concentrated in a single national market.
European Currencies Show Mixed Performance
Currency indexes were comparatively subdued. The PHLX British Pound edged up 0.02% to 132.33, while the PHLX Euro slipped 0.07% to 112.02.
The pound’s marginal gain and the euro’s modest decline contrasted with the stronger performance across European equities, leaving currency movements mixed during the session.
Outlook
European markets enter the next session on a firmer footing after all major equity benchmarks advanced on October 12. The EURO STOXX 50 led the gains, while the FTSE 100 also recorded a notable increase.
Investors will watch whether the rebound continues across the region and whether the major indexes can sustain their recovery following the recent period of broad equity-market weakness.
