The pound’s advance represented a recovery from its October 2 level of 131.97, while the euro moved slightly above 112.46.

The modest currency gains contrasted with the weakness across most European equity benchmarks.

Outlook

European markets began the week with a mixed performance, as the FTSE 100 and currencies gained while most major equity benchmarks declined. The CAC 40 recorded the largest equity loss at 1.00%, while the DAX, MSCI Europe, Euronext 100 and EURO STOXX 50 also moved lower. With the latest session showing a clear divergence between markets, investors will be watching whether European equities stabilize or extend their recent volatility.
