Key Points
- Accenture shares jumped 22%, their strongest single-day gain on record, after the company delivered stronger-than-expected quarterly revenue and a better fiscal 2027 growth outlook.
- Fourth-quarter revenue reached $18.68 billion, above the $18.03 billion analyst estimate, while bookings increased 4% to $22.17 billion.
- Accenture expects fiscal 2027 revenue growth of 3% to 6% in local currency and plans to invest approximately $5 billion in acquisitions.
Accenture’s fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 results delivered a sharp reversal in investor sentiment toward the global IT consulting sector, sending the company’s shares up 22% on October 1. The move came as stronger revenue, bookings and fiscal 2027 guidance eased concerns that artificial intelligence could disrupt traditional technology-services businesses.
Revenue and Bookings Highlight Resilient Enterprise Technology Demand
Accenture reported fourth-quarter revenue of $18.68 billion, exceeding the $18.03 billion consensus estimate, while bookings rose 4% to $22.17 billion. Consulting revenue increased 7% to $9.28 billion, indicating continued demand from large organizations seeking outside expertise to automate operations, modernize technology infrastructure and implement AI systems. The company said fourth-quarter revenue was above the high end of its own guidance, with growth across geographic markets, industry groups and types of work.
For the full fiscal year, Accenture generated $74.2 billion in revenue, up 5% in local currency. Adjusted earnings per share reached $13.97, an 8% increase from the previous year, while adjusted operating margin expanded to 15.8%. Free cash flow totaled $11.6 billion, highlighting the company’s ability to continue investing in acquisitions and shareholder returns while expanding its AI capabilities.
Fiscal 2027 Outlook Changes the AI Investment Debate
The most significant market catalyst was Accenture’s forecast for fiscal 2027. The company expects revenue growth of 3% to 6% in local currency, above the 3.9% average analyst estimate cited by LSEG. The midpoint of the guidance therefore points to growth that is stronger than investors had anticipated, suggesting that corporate spending on AI adoption and broader digital transformation is creating new demand rather than simply replacing existing technology-services work.
Accenture also expects adjusted operating margin of 15.9% to 16.1% and adjusted earnings per share of $14.39 to $14.81 for fiscal 2027. The company projects free cash flow of $11.0 billion to $11.8 billion and plans to return at least $9.5 billion to shareholders.
Accenture Rally Lifts Broader IT Services Sector
The 22% surge in Accenture shares had implications beyond the company itself. Reuters reported gains of about 8% for Cognizant and 3% for IBM, while U.S.-listed shares of Indian IT-services companies Wipro and Infosys advanced between 6% and 7%. The broad reaction indicates that investors were reassessing the potential impact of AI on established technology-service providers, particularly those positioned to help businesses deploy AI at scale.
Accenture nevertheless acknowledged that pricing was lower in several areas during the quarter, reflecting pressure from clients seeking to capture part of the cost savings generated by AI. The company plans to deploy approximately $5 billion toward acquisitions in fiscal 2027, adding another layer to its strategy of expanding capabilities in high-growth areas.
Investors will now focus on whether Accenture can sustain its projected growth while protecting margins in an increasingly competitive AI market. Its October 14 Investor Day is expected to provide additional detail on its acquisition strategy, AI investments and longer-term growth priorities, while quarterly bookings, pricing trends, margins and corporate technology spending will remain key indicators of whether the latest rally reflects a durable shift in expectations.
