Micron Technology is approaching its September 30 fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report with expectations elevated by strong artificial intelligence-related demand and a favorable memory-chip pricing environment. The results will provide another important test of whether Micron can convert robust data-center demand and higher average selling prices into sustained revenue and margin expansion.

Record Q3 Results Set a High Bar

Micron’s fiscal third quarter, which ended May 28, delivered record financial results. Revenue reached $41.46 billion, compared with $23.86 billion in the previous quarter and $9.30 billion a year earlier. Non-GAAP earnings reached $25.11 per diluted share, while gross margin increased to 84.9%.

The improvement was particularly visible in businesses connected to data-center demand. Core Data Center revenue increased to $11.52 billion from $5.69 billion in the previous quarter, while its gross margin reached 87%. Cloud Memory revenue rose to $13.77 billion, with an 83% gross margin.

Micron also secured $22 billion in commitments from 16 strategic customers during the quarter, providing additional visibility into future memory demand. Reuters reported that these agreements are designed to support supply commitments amid tight market conditions for advanced memory used in AI systems.

Q4 Guidance Raises Expectations

The company has already provided a strong framework for the September quarter. Micron expects fiscal Q4 revenue of approximately $50 billion, with a range of $49 billion to $51 billion, while gross margin is projected at approximately 86%. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share are expected at $31, with a $1 range on either side.

That outlook makes pricing and margins particularly important. Higher average selling prices can have an outsized effect on Micron’s profitability when demand remains strong and supply is constrained. The company’s Q3 results already demonstrated how quickly improving pricing and product mix can expand margins.

AI Data Centers Remain the Central Growth Engine

The broader AI infrastructure buildout remains a critical factor behind Micron’s operating environment. High-bandwidth memory, or HBM, is increasingly important for advanced AI processors, while data centers require substantial volumes of conventional DRAM and other memory products.

Micron said HBM4 was already in high-volume shipments for a lead customer in Q3, with qualification samples shipped to additional end customers. The company also said development of HBM4E was progressing, with volume production expected in 2027.

Stock Momentum Meets a Higher Earnings Bar

The market reaction to Micron’s previous earnings report was significant, with shares rising more than 15% following the June results. The attached six-month chart shows MU at approximately $1,096 on September 22, after recovering from a summer pullback and moving back above the $1,000 level. The chart’s RSI reading near 70 also indicates strong recent momentum, while suggesting that investors are entering the earnings event with elevated expectations.

That combination makes the September 30 report particularly important. Investors will be watching not only whether revenue and earnings meet the company’s guidance, but also whether management signals continued strength in data-center demand, memory pricing, HBM shipments and future margins.

Going forward, the key issue will be whether Micron can sustain the unusually strong economics of its current memory cycle as AI infrastructure investment expands. Q4 results, pricing trends and forward guidance should provide important evidence about the durability of the company’s earnings growth and the broader strength of the AI memory market.
