Dell Technologies is gaining renewed attention from investors after reporting record demand for AI servers and sharply raising its financial outlook. The results underscore the growing scale of corporate and cloud investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure, with demand for computing capacity increasingly becoming a major growth driver across the global technology sector.

Record AI Orders Drive Dell’s Latest Surge

Dell booked a record $60.9 billion in AI server orders during the second quarter of fiscal 2027, while AI-optimized server revenue reached $16.4 billion, doubling from the same period a year earlier. The company exited the quarter with a record $95 billion AI server backlog, providing substantial visibility into future revenue as customers continue building large-scale computing infrastructure.

The scale of the order pipeline represents a significant acceleration from earlier periods. Dell recorded $24.4 billion in AI orders in the first quarter and ended that quarter with a $51.3 billion backlog. The latest figures therefore indicate that demand is expanding faster than the company can convert orders into completed shipments.

Financial Results Strengthen the AI Infrastructure Story

Dell’s overall second-quarter revenue reached a record $47.0 billion, an increase of 58% from a year earlier. Adjusted earnings per share rose 203% to $7.04, significantly exceeding the pace of revenue growth and highlighting the operating leverage created by the company’s expanding infrastructure business.

The Infrastructure Solutions Group generated $31.8 billion in revenue, up 89% year over year. Traditional servers and networking also recorded strong growth, demonstrating that the investment cycle is extending beyond specialized AI accelerators into broader data-center infrastructure. Dell’s client business benefited from stronger commercial PC demand as organizations continue upgrading technology infrastructure.

Higher Guidance Raises Expectations for Dell

The strength of the latest results prompted Dell to raise its full-year fiscal 2027 revenue forecast to $192 billion, compared with its previous guidance of $167 billion. The company also increased its adjusted earnings-per-share forecast to $25.50, reflecting expectations that AI infrastructure demand will remain a major contributor to financial performance.

Dell’s shares rose sharply in after-hours trading following the announcement, extending an already strong performance in 2026. However, the stronger outlook also raises expectations for continued execution. Supply constraints involving advanced processors, memory and other components remain important variables, particularly as AI infrastructure demand expands across cloud providers, enterprises and sovereign computing projects.

The next stage of Dell’s growth will depend on how quickly the company can convert its record backlog into revenue while maintaining margins and managing component availability. Investors will also watch whether AI spending remains broad-based as businesses move from experimental deployments toward production-scale workloads, including generative AI and increasingly autonomous software systems. Sustained order growth would reinforce Dell’s position in the expanding AI infrastructure market, while any slowdown in data-center spending or supply constraints could moderate the pace of expansion.
