Key Points

  • Dell Technologies and Hewlett Packard Enterprise are entering earnings week with elevated investor expectations as artificial-intelligence infrastructure spending continues to reshape the server market.
  • Dell’s $51.3 billion AI-server backlog and HPE’s expanding sovereign-AI strategy could provide fresh evidence on whether demand is strong enough to sustain elevated infrastructure valuations.
  • The results may also influence sentiment toward Super Micro Computer, whose shares remain discounted despite improving financial expectations and continued exposure to major AI customers.

Dell’s upcoming fiscal second-quarter report is becoming an important test for the broader AI infrastructure trade. Analysts are projecting revenue of about $44.48 billion, representing growth of nearly 50% from a year earlier, while adjusted earnings are expected to more than double to approximately $4.93 per share. Such expectations leave limited room for disappointment, particularly after the stock’s extraordinary 266% year-to-date advance.

The company’s first-quarter figures provide the foundation for that optimism. Dell reported a record $51.3 billion AI-server backlog, while revenue from AI-optimized servers jumped 757% to $16.1 billion. The scale of those figures suggests that AI infrastructure has moved beyond an experimental spending cycle and into a much larger capital-investment phase. Investors will therefore focus not only on reported earnings, but also on new orders, backlog conversion, supply constraints and the effect of higher AI-related volumes on margins.

HPE Expands Its Position in a Rapidly Changing Market

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is approaching its fiscal third-quarter earnings with similarly ambitious expectations. Wall Street forecasts revenue of approximately $11.96 billion, up about 30%, while adjusted earnings per share are expected to more than double to $0.93. HPE shares have already gained roughly 120% this year, reflecting a significant reassessment of the company’s prospects as AI infrastructure becomes a larger component of enterprise technology budgets.

HPE’s strategy also extends beyond conventional data-center demand. Its expansion into sovereign AI and localized computing infrastructure, including next-generation servers associated with Saudi Arabia, highlights a broader trend toward governments and regional enterprises seeking greater control over AI capabilities. Strong commentary on these opportunities could reinforce the view that AI infrastructure spending is becoming more geographically diversified rather than concentrated among a handful of U.S. technology companies.

Why Super Micro Could Be the Bigger Sentiment Indicator

The implications extend to Super Micro Computer, where investors are watching whether stronger industry-wide demand can overcome company-specific concerns. Super Micro recently projected fiscal 2027 revenue above prevailing expectations, while its fourth-quarter gross margin reached 17.5%. Those developments indicate improving operating momentum, but the stock continues to trade at a substantial discount to its prior highs.

That discount reflects more than valuation. Governance questions, reputational concerns and regulatory issues have complicated the investment narrative. Even if demand remains robust, investors may require clearer evidence of execution and regulatory resilience before assigning Super Micro a valuation comparable with other AI infrastructure beneficiaries.

For markets, Dell and HPE therefore represent more than two individual earnings events. Their order trends, supply commentary and outlooks could help determine whether the AI infrastructure cycle is broadening sustainably or whether expectations have already moved too far ahead of fundamentals. Investors should watch backlog growth, customer spending, memory availability and margin performance closely. Positive signals could strengthen the case for further sector upside, while weaker guidance could expose how much optimism is already embedded in AI-related valuations.
