Key Points

  • Anthropic has signed a reported $35 billion cloud-computing agreement with Nvidia-backed Lambda to secure additional AI infrastructure capacity.
  • Baird maintains an Outperform rating and $500 price target on Nvidia, reflecting its expectation that AI infrastructure demand can continue expanding beyond traditional hyperscalers.
  • The deal reinforces Nvidia's position in the AI infrastructure ecosystem, while also raising questions about customer financing, concentration, valuation, and the sustainability of AI capital spending.

Nvidia remains at the center of the global artificial intelligence infrastructure cycle as Anthropic reportedly agreed to a $35 billion cloud-computing deal with Lambda, an Nvidia-backed cloud provider. The agreement adds to a rapidly expanding pipeline of AI infrastructure commitments and provides another indication that demand for computing capacity remains substantial as developers scale generative AI models and applications.

Anthropic Expands AI Computing Capacity

The reported agreement is tied to a data center under development in Nueces County, Texas, with approximately 350 megawatts of planned capacity. The facility is being developed by Hut 8, while Nvidia is expected to supply the chips used by Lambda to provide computing capacity to Anthropic. The arrangement comes shortly after Anthropic committed another $45 billion for AI cloud capacity from Nscale, underscoring the scale of computing resources that leading AI developers are seeking.

For Nvidia, the significance extends beyond direct chip demand. The company is increasingly positioned across several layers of the AI infrastructure ecosystem, including processors, networking, data-center systems, and relationships with specialized cloud providers. That broader exposure could allow Nvidia to benefit as AI workloads migrate from training toward increasingly intensive inference and enterprise applications.

Baird’s Bullish Nvidia Thesis Faces a Higher Bar

Baird has maintained an Outperform rating on Nvidia with a $500 price target, following its May upgrade from $300. The brokerage’s thesis has emphasized Nvidia’s expanding position in inference and hyperscale computing, along with the potential contribution of its next-generation platforms and CPU offerings.

The Anthropic-Lambda agreement provides additional evidence supporting the broader AI infrastructure thesis, but it does not eliminate valuation or execution risks. Investors must still assess whether rapidly rising AI capital expenditures will generate sufficient long-term returns for cloud providers and model developers. The increasingly interconnected relationships among Nvidia, infrastructure providers, and AI companies may also attract greater scrutiny around financing structures and economic concentration.

Israeli Investors Monitor the AI Infrastructure Cycle

For Israeli investors, Nvidia remains a key reference point for the global AI and semiconductor investment cycle, with implications extending to Israeli technology companies involved in cybersecurity, data infrastructure, networking, and enterprise software. Continued spending by AI developers could support demand across the broader technology ecosystem, although the benefits are unlikely to be distributed evenly.

Outlook: The near-term outlook for Nvidia remains closely linked to whether AI infrastructure spending can continue expanding at a pace capable of supporting elevated earnings expectations. Additional cloud commitments from Anthropic and other model developers could reinforce demand visibility, while Nvidia’s expanding ecosystem may strengthen its strategic position. However, valuation risk, custom-chip competition, customer concentration, financing structures, export restrictions, and a potential slowdown in AI capital expenditure remain important downside factors. For professional investors, the key question is increasingly whether AI demand translates into durable cash flows rather than simply larger infrastructure commitments.
