Key Points
- Autodesk delivered a strong fiscal Q2 2027 performance, with revenue increasing 16% year over year and profitability improving across operating metrics.
- The company raised its full-year revenue and billings guidance, supported by demand for design, construction and operational technology solutions.
- Artificial intelligence and digital twin initiatives are becoming strategic growth drivers, expanding Autodesk’s role across the Design, Make and Operate ecosystem.
Autodesk Inc. reported strong fiscal second-quarter 2027 results on August 27, 2026, exceeding expectations and raising its full-year outlook as demand for digital design, construction technology and AI-powered workflows continued to expand. The company’s performance reflects broader enterprise investment in software platforms that improve productivity, automation and operational efficiency across industries.
As businesses increasingly integrate artificial intelligence into engineering, manufacturing and construction processes, Autodesk is positioning its platform around a broader ecosystem connecting design, production and operational management.
Revenue Growth and Profitability Strengthen Financial Performance
Autodesk reported total revenue growth of 16% on a reported basis and 14% in constant currency during fiscal Q2 2027. The company also recorded a 10% increase in billings on a reported basis, with constant currency growth reaching 12%, demonstrating continued demand for its subscription-based software offerings.
Profitability improved significantly during the quarter. GAAP operating margin reached 29%, increasing approximately four percentage points compared with the prior year, while non-GAAP operating margin reached 41%, improving by approximately two percentage points.
Autodesk generated $561 million in free cash flow during the quarter, highlighting the strength of its recurring revenue model and operational execution. The company also continued its capital return program, repurchasing approximately 2.1 million shares for $453 million.
AI Strategy and Digital Transformation Expand Market Opportunity
A major focus of Autodesk’s strategy remains the integration of artificial intelligence into its design and engineering platforms. The company highlighted growing adoption of AI capabilities, including Fusion Assistant and Neural CAD, which are designed to improve productivity and enhance user workflows.
The company’s broader strategy of connecting Design, Make and Operate solutions is also gaining traction among enterprise customers. A major global retailer selected Autodesk Forma and Tandem technologies for digital twin capabilities, demonstrating increasing demand for platforms that provide real-time visibility across complex operations.
The construction segment remains a key growth area, with revenue expanding more than 20%. Demand for pre-construction tools, model coordination solutions and technology-driven project management continues to support Autodesk’s expansion within the construction technology market.
MaintainX Acquisition Adds Operational Technology Capabilities
Autodesk’s acquisition of MaintainX represents an important step in expanding beyond traditional design software into operational management. The company expects MaintainX to contribute approximately $60 million in second-half fiscal 2027 revenue and approximately $70 million in second-half billings.
However, management noted that MaintainX is currently unprofitable and will create some pressure on operating margins during fiscal 2027. The acquisition reflects Autodesk’s long-term strategy of building a broader industrial software ecosystem, although integration and profitability improvements will remain important factors to monitor.
For fiscal 2027, Autodesk raised its revenue guidance to between $8.295 billion and $8.345 billion, while billings guidance increased to between $8.575 billion and $8.65 billion. Free cash flow expectations were narrowed to a range of $2.725 billion to $2.75 billion.
Future Growth Depends on Execution and AI Adoption
Going forward, investors will monitor Autodesk’s ability to maintain growth momentum while managing operational changes, including sales restructuring and the transition of customer agreements. The company will also need to demonstrate that AI investments translate into increased customer adoption and expanded software usage.
Key factors shaping Autodesk’s outlook include enterprise spending trends, construction technology demand, MaintainX integration progress and the competitive landscape for AI-enabled software solutions. While the company enters the next phase with stronger guidance and improved profitability, execution across its expanding technology ecosystem will remain central to sustaining long-term growth.
