Key Points

  • Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT) is forming a second “bull flag” pattern since late 2025, suggesting the broader uptrend may remain intact.
  • A measured-move projection points toward 150–151, compared with a recent pattern low of 108.15.
  • Elevated momentum and a break below roughly 108 would weaken or invalidate the bullish technical setup.

U.S. technology shares may be entering a period of consolidation after a strong advance, but technical indicators suggest the recent rally has not necessarily run its course. Analysis of the Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT) shows a pattern that historically can precede another leg higher, although elevated momentum means investors may first see a period of digestion and volatility.

VGT Forms a Second Bull Flag

The VGT chart is displaying what technical analysts describe as a bull flag: a sharp upward move, or “flagpole,” followed by a period of sideways or modestly weaker trading as the market absorbs previous gains. Reuters analysis notes that this is the second such formation since late 2025, giving the current pattern greater significance within the recent technology-sector trend.

The earlier formation developed between October and April before VGT moved from 83.30 to a peak of 125.97. Applying the size of that previous move to the more recent pattern produces a measured-move projection of approximately 150–151, provided the current formation resolves to the upside. The projection is a technical scenario rather than a forecast of fundamental value, and its relevance depends on the pattern remaining intact.

Volume Supports the Consolidation Thesis

Trading activity is also consistent with the technical interpretation. Volume increased during the latest advance and subsequently eased as prices entered consolidation, broadly resembling the pattern observed during the October-to-April formation. Reuters notes that such behavior can reflect a distribution phase, in which earlier participants take profits while other investors continue entering the market.

The underlying ETF provides broad exposure to the U.S. information-technology sector rather than representing a single technology company. Vanguard describes VGT as tracking the MSCI US Investable Market Information Technology 25/50 Index, giving the technical pattern relevance as a broader gauge of U.S. technology equities.

Momentum Creates a Near-Term Constraint

The bullish setup is not without limitations. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) remains elevated following the recent advance, indicating that the market may need additional time to consolidate before establishing another sustained move. An elevated RSI does not by itself signal that an uptrend has ended, but it can indicate that the pace of recent gains has become difficult to maintain without a period of adjustment.

The most important technical threshold identified in the analysis is the recent low near 108. A sustained decline below that level, together with a break of the developing flag structure, would weaken the continuation thesis and potentially invalidate the current bullish pattern.

What Investors Will Be Watching Next

The next phase for U.S. technology shares is therefore likely to depend on whether consolidation remains orderly or develops into a broader reversal. A breakout from the flag would reinforce the technical continuation signal and place the 150–151 measured-move area into focus, while a break below 108 would materially change the chart structure. For global investors, including those in Israel, the key issue is whether technology valuations can absorb higher-for-longer interest-rate risks while maintaining the earnings and growth expectations that have supported the sector’s advance.
