European markets began the new trading week with a broadly positive tone on August 10, 2026, as most major equity benchmarks advanced while European currencies strengthened. The EURO STOXX 50 and Germany’s DAX led the modest gains among major stock indices, while the MSCI Europe and Euronext 100 also moved higher. France’s CAC 40 was unchanged, while the FTSE 100 edged lower.

The session indicates that investor confidence remains relatively firm after European equities delivered a strong performance through late July and the first part of August. However, the limited size of most gains suggests investors are becoming more selective following the recent rally.

Eurozone Benchmarks Continue to Advance

The EURO STOXX 50 rose 0.17% to 6,534.71, leading the major European equity benchmarks. The gain reflects continued demand for large-cap eurozone companies as investors maintain exposure to the region’s leading corporations.

Germany’s DAX added 0.15% to 26,357.80, remaining comfortably above the 26,000 level. The benchmark continues to demonstrate resilience after reaching successive highs in recent sessions, reinforcing the strong momentum that has characterized German equities.

The Euronext 100 Index advanced 0.14% to 1,971.93, while the MSCI Europe Index gained 0.09% to 2,904.50. The positive movement in both benchmarks indicates that gains remain relatively broad across European markets, although the pace has moderated.

France and the U.K. Show More Limited Movement

France’s CAC 40 finished unchanged at 8,715.13. The flat performance suggests investors paused after the benchmark’s strong advance earlier in August, with buying and selling pressures largely balanced.

The FTSE 100 was the only major equity benchmark to finish lower, declining 0.09% to 10,891.05. The modest decline indicates that U.K. equities remained relatively stable despite the broader positive tone across continental Europe.

The divergence between the FTSE 100 and continental benchmarks highlights the selective nature of current European market activity.

European Currencies Strengthen

Currency markets provided some of the strongest moves during the session. The Euro Index climbed 0.31% to 115.59, while the British Pound Index gained 0.28% to 134.92.

The strengthening of both currencies alongside modest equity gains suggests that investor confidence in European financial assets remains constructive. The euro’s advance was particularly notable given its recent fluctuations, while the pound continued to recover from its earlier weakness.

Outlook

European markets continue to demonstrate resilience as August progresses, with most major equity benchmarks maintaining their upward momentum. The DAX remains above 26,000, while the EURO STOXX 50 and MSCI Europe Index continue to advance. At the same time, stronger European currencies indicate improving sentiment across multiple asset classes. However, the relatively small equity gains and flat performance in France suggest investors may be entering a more cautious phase after the strong rally seen since late July. Attention will remain focused on corporate earnings, inflation data, central bank policy, and broader economic developments for the next catalyst.
