European markets maintained their positive momentum on August 4, 2026, as major equity benchmarks extended gains for a second consecutive session. Germany once again led regional performance, while the broader eurozone and pan-European indices also moved higher. Despite the continued strength in equities, both the euro and British pound weakened modestly, highlighting a divergence between stock and currency markets.

The session reinforced the constructive tone that has characterized European trading since the end of July. Investors continued to favor regional equities as optimism surrounding corporate earnings and economic resilience outweighed concerns over monetary policy and global growth.

Germany Leads Another Broad-Based Rally

Germany’s DAX delivered the strongest performance among the major European benchmarks, climbing 0.91% to 26,238.90. The gain pushed the index to another record level above 26,000, underscoring continued investor confidence in Germany’s industrial, manufacturing, and export-oriented sectors.

The Euronext 100 Index followed with a 0.73% advance to 1,953.44, reflecting renewed demand for multinational companies operating across Europe. The performance indicates investors remain supportive of businesses with diversified revenue streams despite an uncertain global backdrop.

The EURO STOXX 50 also posted a solid gain, rising 0.70% to 6,471.54. The increase highlights continued buying across the eurozone’s largest publicly traded companies and reinforces the strength of continental European equities.

Regional Markets Build on Positive Momentum

The MSCI Europe Index gained 0.62% to 2,874.88, signaling broad participation across European equity markets. The advance suggests investors continued adding exposure across multiple sectors and countries rather than concentrating on a limited group of stocks.

The FTSE 100 rose 0.42% to 10,903.82, extending its recent upward trend and remaining near record levels. Continued strength in the U.K. benchmark reflects investor confidence in British blue-chip companies despite softer performance in the pound.

France’s CAC 40 also advanced, adding 0.31% to 8,640.18. While the gain was more modest than those seen in Germany and regional benchmarks, it reinforced the broad-based nature of the rally across Europe.

The widespread advances demonstrate that investor sentiment remains firmly positive as markets continue building on July’s strong finish.

Currency Markets Move Lower

Unlike equities, European currencies weakened during the session. The Euro Index slipped 0.16% to 115.10, while the British Pound Index declined 0.36% to 134.29.

The modest pullback in currencies contrasts with the continued strength in stock markets, suggesting investors remain more optimistic about corporate earnings and equity valuations than the near-term outlook for European currencies. The divergence between asset classes has become a recurring feature of recent trading sessions.

Outlook

European markets continue to display impressive resilience as the new month progresses. Record highs in Germany’s DAX and steady gains across the EURO STOXX 50, MSCI Europe, Euronext 100, FTSE 100, and CAC 40 indicate that investor confidence remains strong. Although the euro and British pound experienced modest declines, equity markets continue to attract capital amid encouraging earnings expectations and stable economic conditions. Investors will remain focused on corporate results, inflation trends, central bank policy signals, and macroeconomic releases to determine whether the current rally can extend further through August.
