Israeli equities opened the new trading week on a weaker footing Monday, August 3, as investors resumed selling across nearly every major segment of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Large-cap, mid-cap, banking, and sector indexes all closed lower, reversing much of the optimism seen during the previous week’s rally.

In contrast, the bond market remained comparatively resilient, posting modest gains as investors continued to seek stability in fixed-income securities amid renewed volatility in equities.

Blue-Chip Stocks Lead Broad Market Decline

The TA-35 Index fell 0.91% to close at 4,111.69 points. Only 11 constituents advanced while 23 declined, highlighting widespread weakness among Israel’s largest publicly traded companies.

The broader TA-125 Index dropped 0.97% to finish at 4,032.40 points. Advancing stocks totaled 33 compared with 91 decliners, while one security remained unchanged. The negative market breadth demonstrated that selling extended across a wide range of industries rather than being concentrated in a few sectors.

Stock market turnover reached approximately NIS 3.75 billion, reflecting active trading as investors adjusted portfolios following the previous week’s gains.

The decline interrupted the market’s recent recovery and suggested investors remained cautious amid ongoing economic and geopolitical uncertainty.

Mid-Cap and Sector Indexes Also Move Lower

Selling pressure extended beyond blue-chip stocks.

The TA-90 Index declined 1.29% to close at 3,784.34 points. Only 22 securities advanced while 68 declined, making mid-cap stocks one of the weakest-performing areas of the market.

The TA-90 and Banks Index lost 1.08%, ending the session at 3,936.74 points. Advancers totaled 22 compared with 73 decliners, indicating that financial shares also participated in the broader market retreat.

The TA-125 Value Index fell 0.24% to 4,090.16 points. Although value stocks outperformed the broader market, declining issues still outnumbered advancing securities by 41 to 15.

The Tel Aviv Sector-Balance Index declined 0.76% to close at 4,605.18 points. With 70 declining stocks versus 29 gainers, the index confirmed that weakness remained widespread across multiple industries.

Overall, investor sentiment shifted back toward caution after the previous week’s rebound, with broad participation in the market’s decline.

Bond Market Provides Relative Stability

Israel’s fixed-income market once again proved more resilient than equities.

The All-Bond General Index edged up 0.01% to finish at 431.59 points. Market breadth remained positive, with 424 advancing bond issues compared with 144 decliners.

The Short-Term Bond Index gained 0.02% to close at 477.24 points, continuing its pattern of stability as investors favored lower-risk fixed-income assets.

Corporate bond performance was mixed. The Tel Bond-Adjoined A Index slipped 0.10% to 438.87 points, while the Tel Bond 60 Adjacent Index rose 0.03% to finish at 427.93 points.

Bond market turnover totaled approximately NIS 3.83 billion, slightly exceeding stock market turnover, reflecting continued investor interest in defensive positioning.

Market Outlook

Monday’s decline highlights the continued volatility in Israeli financial markets despite the strong rebound recorded at the end of last week. Investors will continue monitoring corporate earnings, domestic economic indicators, global monetary policy expectations, and geopolitical developments for direction. Whether the recent pullback develops into a broader correction or proves to be a temporary pause will likely depend on improving market breadth and renewed buying interest in Israel’s large-cap and financial sectors.
