Anthropic Partnership Targets Software Leadership
AMD said it will make a strategic equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic while supporting the deployment of as much as 2 gigawatts of Instinct MI450 Series GPUs within AMD’s Helios rack-scale systems. The first phase of deployment is expected to begin during the first half of 2027.
Beyond the financial commitment, the companies will work together to optimize Anthropic’s Claude models for AMD hardware while accelerating development of AMD’s ROCm software platform.
The collaboration addresses a long-standing challenge for AMD. While its AI accelerators have become increasingly competitive from a hardware perspective, Nvidia continues to dominate the market through CUDA, its mature software ecosystem that has become deeply integrated across artificial intelligence development.

The company unveiled its sixth-generation EPYC Venice server processor, the first x86 server CPU manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2-nanometer process technology. AMD also introduced its latest Instinct GPU family and Helios rack-scale systems, designed to support increasingly complex AI models requiring massive memory capacity and high-performance computing infrastructure.
