IREN Ltd. reported fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 results on August 27, 2026, highlighting the company’s accelerating transition from cryptocurrency mining toward artificial intelligence infrastructure and cloud computing services. The company’s latest performance reflects the growing demand for specialized AI data centers as technology companies seek additional computing capacity for advanced workloads.

The results demonstrate both the opportunity and complexity of building AI infrastructure at scale, with significant capital requirements, long-term customer commitments and expanding demand for GPU-powered computing environments.

AI Cloud Growth Becomes Central to IREN’s Business Strategy

IREN generated $137.2 million in quarterly revenue, including $70.5 million from AI Cloud operations. The company highlighted AI infrastructure as a major growth driver as it continues shifting resources toward high-performance computing and enterprise AI workloads.

Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) exited the quarter at approximately $500 million and has since reached $1 billion. Management expects ARR to exceed $4 billion by the end of the December quarter, supported by new customer contracts and expanded GPU capacity.

The company has secured approximately $4 billion in contracted ARR for 2026 capacity, reflecting strong demand from AI-focused customers. Its customer base includes organizations such as Cohere, Prometheus, Perplexity, Figure AI and other advanced AI developers, demonstrating broader market interest in dedicated AI infrastructure.

Large-Scale Financing Supports Data Center Expansion

Building AI infrastructure requires substantial investment, and IREN has secured approximately $19 billion in funding over the past 12 months. The financing includes customer prepayments, GPU financing arrangements, convertible notes and equity capital.

The company reported raising approximately $6.5 billion in GPU financing over the past three months. This included $3.6 billion related to its Microsoft contract at a weighted average interest rate of approximately 6%, as well as $2.8 billion for additional deployments, including $2.4 billion at a fixed 9% rate.

Customer prepayments have also become an important component of the funding strategy, covering approximately 45% to 55% of GPU capital expenditures in recent agreements. This model allows IREN to expand infrastructure while reducing upfront capital pressure.

AI Infrastructure Expansion Creates Opportunities and Execution Challenges

IREN’s AI infrastructure strategy is supported by a significant development pipeline, including more than 5 gigawatts of secured grid connections. The company is targeting approximately 1.2 gigawatts of gross capacity during 2027, positioning itself within the rapidly expanding AI data center market.

The company also highlighted technology developments, including the delivery of Horizon 1 to Microsoft and achievement of NVIDIA exemplar cloud status on GB300 NVL72 infrastructure. Additionally, the acquisition of Mirantis is expected to strengthen IREN’s software capabilities and support higher-margin managed services.

However, the transition requires substantial capital deployment. IREN reported a net loss of $684 million for the quarter, driven primarily by noncash impairments of $450.4 million and a $102.1 million decline in the fair value of mining hardware held for sale.

What Investors Should Monitor as AI Demand Accelerates

Going forward, investors will monitor IREN’s ability to convert infrastructure investments into sustainable AI Cloud revenue, manage financing commitments and maintain customer demand as competition in AI computing increases. The company’s ability to execute large-scale deployments while controlling capital intensity will remain a key factor in its long-term development.

The broader AI infrastructure market continues expanding rapidly, creating significant opportunities for specialized data center providers. At the same time, financing conditions, customer concentration, technology execution and changes in AI computing demand will remain important considerations as IREN advances its transformation into an AI-focused infrastructure company.
