Key Points
- Cerebras was expected to deliver approximately $194 million in second-quarter core revenue, representing an estimated 88% year-over-year increase.
- Gross margin was projected to fall to 36%–38% because of temporary reliance on expensive third-party computing capacity, making margin recovery a central issue for investors.
- A sustained break above $273.80 could open the path toward $300.36, while a move below $247.24 could weaken the recovery and expose the stock to support near $236.
Cerebras Systems entered its second-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings report with investors focused on the tension between rapid AI-driven revenue growth and near-term margin pressure. The company was expected to generate approximately $194 million in core revenue, an 88% year-over-year increase, while core gross margin was projected to fall to 36%–38%. With the stock already above the $248 resistance area and Wall Street maintaining a Strong Buy consensus with an average price target of $297.56, the earnings results and subsequent guidance became critical for determining whether the recovery could extend toward $300.
AI Demand Supports Strong Revenue Growth
Cerebras has positioned itself as a specialized AI computing provider at a time when demand for inference capacity continues to expand. The projected $194 million in second-quarter core revenue represents substantial year-over-year growth and reflects the company’s ability to secure demand from major customers, including OpenAI.
However, the revenue trajectory needs to be evaluated alongside the company’s cost structure. Cerebras previously indicated that second-quarter core gross margin would decline from 46.5% in the first quarter to between 36% and 38%. The deterioration was attributed primarily to temporary reliance on expensive third-party computing systems while the company’s own data-center infrastructure becomes operational.
This creates an important distinction for investors. Strong top-line growth demonstrates demand, but improving margins will ultimately determine how effectively Cerebras can convert that demand into sustainable earnings power.
Margin Pressure Remains a Key Risk
Cerebras was expected to report a core operating margin of negative 30% to negative 32%, underscoring the company’s continued investment phase. The reliance on external infrastructure allows Cerebras to respond to customer demand before its own capacity is fully available, but it also places pressure on profitability.
The longer-term investment case therefore depends on whether internally developed infrastructure can reduce these costs and allow gross margins to recover. If the transition occurs successfully, higher utilization and increasing revenue could provide operating leverage. If third-party computing remains necessary for longer than anticipated, revenue growth could continue without producing comparable improvements in profitability.
For a relatively new public company, that balance is particularly important. Investors may accept substantial losses while the addressable AI market is expanding rapidly, but expectations can shift quickly if growth fails to translate into improving economics.
Wall Street and Technical Signals Point Higher
Analyst sentiment remained strongly bullish ahead of the report. Ten analysts covered the stock with a Strong Buy consensus, an average price target of $297.56, a low target of $273 and a high target of $340. The targets indicate that Wall Street expects Cerebras to capture meaningful long-term value from the expanding AI infrastructure market.
Technical momentum also strengthened. The stock moved above the 0.382 Fibonacci retracement level at $247.24 and traded above its 5-day, 10-day, 20-day, 40-day and 80-day moving averages. The 20-day, 40-day and 80-day averages were concentrated between approximately $215 and $236, creating a potential underlying support zone.
A sustained move above $247.24 would reinforce the breakout structure. The next major level is $273.80, corresponding to the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement. A decisive break above that level could bring the $300.36 0.618 Fibonacci level into focus, followed by $338.17.
Market Outlook
Cerebras’ next direction will depend on whether earnings and management guidance validate the market’s expectations for continued AI demand while providing a path toward better margins. A sustained move above $273.80 would strengthen the bullish technical structure and potentially put $300.36 within reach. However, a reversal below $247.24 would weaken the breakout and could expose the stock to support near $236.
The broader opportunity remains tied to the company’s ability to convert major AI relationships into recurring revenue while reducing its dependence on costly third-party computing resources. Investors should therefore watch revenue growth, gross-margin progression, infrastructure deployment and forward guidance closely. Those factors will determine whether Cerebras’ recent rally represents the beginning of a longer-term repricing or another volatile phase in the emerging AI infrastructure trade.
