Key Points
- Celsius reported second-quarter revenue growth but missed Wall Street expectations on earnings, adjusted EBITDA, and profitability.
- Shares declined sharply after the results as investors reacted to slowing margins and weaker bottom-line performance.
- Management continues to focus on expanding its energy drink portfolio while aiming to return the core CELSIUS brand to sustainable growth.
Celsius Holdings reported mixed second-quarter 2026 results, delivering double-digit revenue growth but falling short of analyst expectations on several key profitability metrics. The earnings release triggered a sharp selloff in the stock as investors questioned whether the company’s rapid expansion strategy can sustain margin growth in an increasingly competitive energy drink market.
The results underscore a broader trend across the consumer beverage sector, where companies continue to generate healthy sales growth but face rising pressure from higher operating costs, increased marketing investments, and intensifying competition for market share.
Revenue Growth Continues While Earnings Fall Short
Celsius reported second-quarter revenue of $817.9 million, representing an 11% increase from a year earlier but slightly below analyst expectations of approximately $870 million. The company continued expanding its distribution footprint and product portfolio, although revenue growth moderated compared with previous quarters.
Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.36, missing the consensus estimate of $0.42 and declining 23% from the prior year. Meanwhile, adjusted EBITDA totaled $184.2 million, below analyst expectations of approximately $196 million and down 12% year over year.
The weaker profitability indicates that while consumer demand remains healthy, the company continues investing heavily in marketing, distribution, and brand expansion initiatives, placing pressure on near-term earnings.
Margins and Net Income Reflect Operating Challenges
The company’s gross margin declined to 48.1%, contracting by approximately 340 basis points compared with the same period last year. The decline reflects higher production costs, increased promotional activity, and continued investments designed to support future growth.
On a GAAP basis, earnings per share fell to $0.14 from $0.33 a year earlier, while net income declined 45% to $55.3 million. Despite the earnings pressure, Celsius continued generating substantial contributions from recently acquired brands, with Alani Nu producing approximately $364.4 million in revenue and Rockstar Energy contributing $66.5 million.
The company’s portfolio retail sales increased 31% year over year, suggesting that consumer demand across its broader brand portfolio remains resilient despite the slower pace of earnings growth.
Management Focuses on Long-Term Brand Expansion
Management stated that Celsius is building a “scaled Modern Energy portfolio” by positioning multiple brands to address different consumer preferences and consumption occasions. Executives also reiterated their objective of returning the flagship CELSIUS brand to sustainable long-term growth while leveraging acquisitions to diversify revenue streams.
The strategy reflects a broader industry trend in which beverage companies are expanding beyond single-brand businesses to create diversified portfolios capable of serving multiple consumer segments. While this approach may strengthen long-term competitive positioning, it also requires continued investment that can temporarily weigh on operating margins.
For institutional investors in Israel and globally, the results highlight the balance between growth and profitability. Although Celsius continues to expand its market presence, investors increasingly expect stronger earnings conversion alongside rising revenue as consumer companies mature.
Looking ahead, investors will closely monitor Celsius’ margin recovery, integration of acquired brands, retail sales momentum, and management’s ability to improve profitability while sustaining revenue growth. Future quarterly results will provide important insight into whether operating leverage begins to emerge as investments in brand expansion mature. Broader consumer spending trends and competitive dynamics within the energy drink market will also remain key factors influencing investor sentiment.
