LeCun Challenges the Dominance of Large Language Models
AMI represents a direct attempt to pursue a different path in artificial intelligence development. LeCun has long argued that today’s large language models, which rely primarily on predicting the next word in a sequence, are fundamentally limited in their ability to reason and understand the world.
Instead, the company plans to focus on building systems based on so-called “world models,” a concept that emphasizes reasoning, planning, and the ability to understand complex environments. According to LeCun, truly intelligent systems must be capable of modeling how the physical world works rather than simply generating text or images based on patterns in training data.
