Key Points
- Nvidia’s revenue more than doubled to $96.2 billion, with data-center revenue reaching approximately $89 billion.
- Management expects about $108 billion in third-quarter revenue, while Stifel raised its price target to $315.
- The key risks are elevated valuation expectations and potential margin pressure as Nvidia targets a 74% gross margin.
Strong Results Meet Rising Expectations
Nvidia’s latest earnings have reinforced the extraordinary strength of the artificial intelligence infrastructure cycle, but the stock’s reaction shows that exceptional operating performance is no longer enough on its own. Shares fell about 3.3% Friday to $220.41 after surging 8.7% in the previous session, even as Stifel raised its price target to $315 from $282. The move illustrates the increasingly demanding expectations surrounding Nvidia as investors assess whether future growth can continue to justify the company’s market valuation.
Revenue more than doubled year over year to $96.2 billion, with data-center revenue reaching approximately $89 billion. Management’s third-quarter revenue outlook of roughly $108 billion implies another 12.3% sequential increase. The numbers point to continued strength in AI computing demand, although investors are also beginning to focus more closely on profitability and the sustainability of the growth trajectory.
The $108 Billion Forecast Becomes the Next Test
The third-quarter revenue target provides an important benchmark for Nvidia’s ability to maintain its extraordinary momentum. Stifel expects the company’s Vera Rubin platform to account for approximately 20% of next quarter’s data-center sales, adding another potential catalyst to the AI infrastructure story.
However, Nvidia’s gross-margin outlook introduces a more complicated element. Management expects a 74% margin, down from 75%. While the difference appears small relative to Nvidia’s overall profitability, even modest margin pressure can become important when investors are valuing the company on the assumption that its dominant position will translate into sustained earnings expansion.
The market is therefore facing a balance between two forces: accelerating AI infrastructure demand and increasingly difficult financial expectations. Nvidia continues to demonstrate enormous scale, but its future share performance may depend on how consistently it can convert that demand into revenue and earnings while preserving its exceptionally high margins.
Pullback or Warning Signal for Investors?
Friday’s decline does not necessarily indicate a deterioration in Nvidia’s underlying business. Thursday’s 8.7% rally added approximately $441.5 billion to the company’s market value, while Friday’s retreat erased around $180 billion, or roughly 41% of that one-session gain. Viewed in that context, the move can reasonably be interpreted as profit-taking and digestion following an unusually powerful advance.
The broader valuation picture, however, remains central to the risk discussion. A GF Score of 90/100 reflects strong profitability, growth and financial strength, while the weak GF Value reading indicates that the stock is already priced for substantial future success. That creates a narrower margin for disappointment: strong results may support the valuation, but any evidence of slowing AI demand, weaker margins or supply constraints could produce a disproportionate market reaction.
Going forward, the $108 billion revenue target, Vera Rubin adoption and 74% margin guidance will be key indicators of whether Nvidia can continue extending its leadership in AI infrastructure. The company’s operational momentum remains formidable, but the stock’s next move is likely to depend increasingly on how much of that future growth has already been reflected in investor expectations.
