Key Points

  • Apple exceeded Wall Street's quarterly revenue and profit expectations, driven by stronger-than-anticipated iPhone and Mac sales.
  • Despite the earnings beat, Apple forecast September-quarter revenue growth of 9% to 11%, below analysts' expectations of approximately 12%.
  • Management cited advanced chip manufacturing bottlenecks as the primary supply constraint, sending Apple shares down about 6% in after-hours trading.

Apple delivered better-than-expected fiscal third-quarter results, supported by robust demand for its flagship iPhone lineup and continued strength in Mac sales. However, investors focused less on the earnings beat and more on the company’s cautious revenue outlook, as supply chain limitations continue to restrict Apple’s ability to meet demand during one of the year’s most important product cycles.

The results underscore a growing challenge for the technology industry: while demand for premium consumer electronics remains resilient, constraints in advanced semiconductor production continue to limit hardware availability and revenue growth. The market’s reaction highlights investors’ increasing emphasis on forward guidance rather than historical performance.

iPhone and Mac Sales Drive Strong Quarterly Results

Apple reported quarterly results that exceeded Wall Street estimates across several key metrics. iPhone revenue climbed 21.7% year over year to $54.25 billion, surpassing analysts’ estimate of $53.86 billion, according to LSEG data. The performance demonstrates continued demand for Apple’s flagship smartphone despite a mature global handset market.

Mac revenue increased 28.7% to $10.35 billion, comfortably above the consensus estimate of $8.74 billion. The strong performance suggests sustained demand for Apple’s latest Mac lineup, supported by continued adoption of Apple-designed silicon and enterprise technology upgrades.

The quarterly results reinforced Apple’s ability to generate revenue growth across multiple product categories, reflecting the strength of its hardware ecosystem and loyal customer base.

Supply Chain Challenges Overshadow the Earnings Beat

Although Apple outperformed expectations during the reported quarter, management issued a more cautious outlook for the fiscal fourth quarter ending in September. Chief Financial Officer Kevan Parekh said the company expects revenue growth of 9% to 11%, below Wall Street’s expectation of approximately 12%.

Apple also projected iPhone revenue growth in the mid-teens, compared with analysts’ forecast of approximately 17.6%. Management expects gross profit margins between 47% and 48%, while acknowledging that advanced chip manufacturing bottlenecks remain the primary factor limiting production capacity.

Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook attributed the supply constraints to shortages in advanced chipmaking capacity rather than weakening consumer demand. As a result, Apple indicated that it is currently unable to manufacture enough products to fully satisfy market demand.

Following the earnings release and guidance, Apple shares declined about 6% in after-hours trading as investors reassessed the company’s near-term growth outlook.

Supply Chain Efficiency Becomes the Next Growth Driver

The latest results demonstrate that Apple’s challenge is increasingly operational rather than demand-driven. Continued investment in artificial intelligence, advanced semiconductors, and next-generation hardware is increasing reliance on cutting-edge chip manufacturing capacity, an area where supply remains constrained across the broader technology industry.

For Apple, successfully securing additional semiconductor production capacity could become one of the most important determinants of revenue growth over the coming quarters. Investors will also closely monitor product launch timing, manufacturing expansion, and any updates regarding supplier diversification.

For investors in Israel, Apple’s outlook carries broader significance given the country’s prominent role in semiconductor design, advanced chip development, cybersecurity, and hardware engineering. Israeli technology companies maintain extensive relationships throughout Apple’s global supply chain and with major semiconductor manufacturers. Continued investment in advanced chip production may create additional opportunities for technology suppliers, while prolonged supply constraints could affect broader industry production schedules.

Looking ahead, investors will focus on Apple’s ability to alleviate supply bottlenecks, sustain iPhone demand, and deliver stronger revenue growth as manufacturing capacity expands. Future product launches, developments in advanced semiconductor production, and management’s commentary on supply chain improvements will remain key indicators of whether Apple can translate strong consumer demand into accelerated financial performance during the remainder of the fiscal year.
